Every time I tell people I'm going travelling by myself they find it weird but then also hasten to add that its "admirable" and that I just don't care about what people think and just go by myself somewhere
I've never been great at making friends (even at hostels) and didn't want to wait to get a bestie in order to travel.
Am I strange?

Same thing happens to me too, especially if it's a coworker who is an older woman.
That's why I just keep this shot to myself now and never talk about it. Sometimes if I get really pushy co-workers or customers that continue to pry into my life, I just lie and say "nothing" or "I'm going to Disney World." The latter will get me time off but then I have to continue the lie by making up activities that I did in this place, which isn't super hard, but a pain anyway. I wish they'd just leave me alone.

you're telling me they consider it normal for a grown-up person to visit Disneyland from time to time, but they think it's strange and abnormal for that person to travel alone?
Also, why would your customers ask you about your private life?
Who the fuck are those people?

Most people I've come across in my jobs are really boring simpletons who really cannot fathom going somewhere abroad like that on their own. What to us seems so simple to them seems like something very courageous and difficult to do. I usually play it up too when talking to them and make it seem like it really is difficult so that they view me as a somewhat living demi-god. I fucking hate the type of people who sell their souls to the "american dream".

Excellent question! I do. not. know. When it's lonely old Medicare ladies I chalk it up to everyone they know being dead and just needing someone to talk to. But a lot of times it's aggressive married men in their late thirties or early forties that just keep digging into my life, and I cannot speculate on their interest.
Last night a dude was following you around ask me what sort of music I like and when I told him I didn't care he just screamed "Come on! I want to know what you listened to when you were 13 years old!" I was so shocked both by the randomness of the question and its specificity that I just stared, and he mumbled "nevermind" and walked away. What the fuck was that all about?
Ask for the grown man thing in Disney World..... whenever I see commercials or stuff on YouTube, there's usually adults on rides and things. I guess I just assumed it wasn't that weird.
These lies usually work for me though I did get caught once because I didn't realize that Disneyworld and Universal Studios were two different things. I was shocked to find that Orlando became a magnet for theme parks for some reason in the same way that Las Vegas is home to so many casinos, but they have a mafia history which makes the casinos make sense why did all the theme parks want to go to Orlando?
Anyway I covered up my mistake with Universal Studios by just saying that I meant to say it in the first place but just forgot because I went to Disney World last year and misspoke.
Thanks for bringing this up, from now on I'm just going to say "Vegas." As my defacto destination and when they ask what I did there I'll just say "Gambling." now I don't have to pretend to care about Harry Potter or Frozen and crap like that. Thanks.

no problem, man. Yeah, vegas sounds perfect - there's like a million of reasons why would you be quiet and dodgey about it.
Mind me asking what your job is? I really can't crack it

Sprint store, I sell phones.

Actually no, not Vegas, going to visit parents is better. If they live out of state, and you don't see them often you can justify few weeks of being gone.

no fucking wonder you guys aren't making friends, holy shit
>>1267236
Fuck you nigger I don't owe you shit.

enjoy being lonely for the rest of your life

Whenever I say I am going somewhere I always classify it as "me time" or "alone time without any concerns". It's all about how you phrase you going somewhere by yourself I found.
