PASSPORT VALIDITY
I'm a US passport holder with only four months validity left, resident in the EU. Flying in the next couple of days transit back to the USA, Madrid to Cairo with Aegean, then switching over to Turkish Airlines for the flight to Chicago. Aegean and Turkish both tell me "no problem" with going back on transit only (and Turkish told me I could go into Cairo, "no problem") , but some people on a travel forum say I need a passport with 6 months validity.
Anyone here had any experience traveling on a passport with less than 6 months validity? Suggestions, please.

If that's the *official policy* from the airlines (and the country in question), you should be ok. Double check policies on the airline websites and the immigration department / home affairs office to make certain, though. Otherwise skip the vacation and fly back direct to Burgertstan.

You need to check Timatic for each leg to be sure. Unfortunately free timaticweb access is no longer a thing directly but it can be indirectly accessed from some airline sites etc. This might help, although it's a bit old:

Regardless of what the call centre worker told you- if the check in agent's Timatic terminal says no, you won't be allowed to fly.
idgi are you worried about passport validity for transit?
i mean, worst case they send you back home, and you want to go home anyway.
just make sure you have the whole trip printed out. twice. or three copies. idk just have all the tickets/boarding cards with you, it should be good.
