thanks!

The D day museum is a must see and if you like music snug harbor and DBA on Frenchman Street are good. Also Rock and bowl is fun depending on band.

Alright, I live in Baton Rouge and know NOLA very well
New Orleans can be a dangerous city if you aren't smart, first some rules
>stay where the people are at night
>stay in a group if you do leave where the people are
>be prepared to see some weird shit around bourbon

Now for food
>Cafe du monde
obviously a must, the line looks longer than it is
>Drago's
a good oyster place, but the oysters are not good right now, you gotta get them in Months that end in -r, but still good if you haven't had them Acme is the same thing
>Domenica
Located in the roosevelt hotel, it is a great Italian styled restaurant, not to expensive either
>red fish grill
if you go get the krystal fried oyster poboy, a favorite of mine
>brennan's is a great brunch place, mostly everything is good

Pretty much most of the stuff you try will be great, Louisiana is the best food state in the world.

Entertainment
>D-day museum
>Bourbon
like a 3 mile party, ESPECIALLY for St. Paddies
>Blacksmith bar
Really cool atmosphere, located on bourbon
>French Quarter
Just walking around and fucking off is fun
>Drive into the surrounding areas
experience true Louisiana, rent a car and drive to Houma or Thibodaux, maybe BR if you feel like it

If you feel like seeing plantation style LA, try driving up to Oak Alley Plantation, if you are feeling like driving farther definitely go to Houmas house, and drive the levee there

If you feel like making a little drive, just visit the surrounding cities, Southern Louisiana is a great and unique culture

Good Luck

pic related, Oak Alley

Do not enter into any wagers with guys on the street about where you got your shoes.

In fact, I have to question the wisdom of entering into wagers with guys on the street at all...
>>
Not OP. What neighborhood around the French Quarter should you stay that's cheap? French Quarter according to Hotels.com, Trivago, and Price line all seem to be overpriced. All I care about for a room is location (walking/public transport), price and safety.
>>
>>1224661
They're all the same
>>
>>1224270
PROTIP: Absolutely everything is closed on a Monday morning.
That being said. I've stayed at the Monteleon and it's pretty swanky and it's in the french quarter so you can pretty much walk to everything of interest.
I like to race so NOLA motorsports park in Avondale is a must for me, but they don't open the rental karts until mid afternoon.

Lived there for 3 years:

French quarter during the day: Napoleonic architecture, French market, Galatoire's for lunch.

Absolutely avoid the quarter at night. Turns into a tourist trap with overpriced drinks.

Check out Frenchmen Street at night. Some of the best Blues & Jazz clubs in the country there.

WW2 Museum is a great place too. Went with my family when they came to visit.

Music: check out Maple Leaf on Tuesday, Tipitina's on Friday night.

Magazine Street: Great place to eat and drink. Check out the Bulldog (beers) & Rum House for food.

Also reserve a spot at Commander's Palace if you have the budget. Excellent food and selection of wines.

thinking about going to nola to cook next winter, but i've never been. anything particularly striking i should be aware of? planning on popping down for a weekend at some point this summer.
>>
I found hotels near the casino offer a good balance between safeness and price as well as location to French Quarter, Bourbon and Frenchman St

Things you will have to do bc that's what anyone's going to ask

Hurricane at Pat Obriens
Hand Grenade at Tropical Isle
Beignet at Cafe Du Monde

Other things to look for: oysters, etoufee, Penthouse Club, brunch buffet
>>
So I'm assuming Bourbon Street is the best place to barhop?
>>
What bar do i need to visit to become a vampire?
>>
>>1226411
...on your feet...
>>
>>1227702

Interviews. It's run by Tom Cruise I hear.

Is all of Bourbon Street considered French Quarter?

Either way, where is the best place to go barhopping at night?
>>
>>1227681
Correct. Few places on Earth will have you shit-faced quicker than Bourbon street. If you're looking for alcohol and great people-watching, look no further than Bourbon street any time after 9 p.m.

>>1227841
The French Quarter is made up of several streets. Bourbon Street is one of those streets and it runs all the way through the French Quarter. I'd recommend checking out Royal Street during the day and Bourbon street during the night. Royal street is beautiful and full of little cafes, shops, pretty architecture, etc.. Bourbon Street is pretty much bar after bar after bar and full of drunk people and white girls that hold up their drinks and say "Wooooo!!" every five minutes. Best place to go barhopping at night = Bourbon street. No doubt about it.
>>
>>1229209
where do locals in New Orleans get drunk?
>>
>>1229235
Frenchmen Street. A lot more chill vibe there. Less modern music and more authentic live jazz band music.
>>
>>1229308
Is it still fun though? Like lots of people out drinking til 5 in the morning?
>>
>>1224473
>but the oysters are not good right now, you gotta get them in Months that end in -r,
why don't people just say around fall-winter?
>>
>>1229343
Technically the bars never close, it is only that you have to get up and do stuff the next day that is stopping you.
>>
>>1229414
Because there is no such thing as fall-winter in Louisiana, the daily low doesn't get below 60 until November-ish, and winter mostly occurs in January in February

And sometimes like this year, we just had a long Autumn, then it switched to Spring, NOLA only got below freezing a couple times this year.

So that's why, there are a lot of things that determine when oysters are good, and cold is only one of them
>>
>>1224661
Downtown if you've got the money to blow
Garden District if you're on a budget
Treme if you've got a deathwish
>>
>>1229541
I mean like is there still a party vibe there?
>>
>>1229911
The entire French quarter always has a party vibe
