>how Las Vegas hotels work
Well, they have "rooms" that they rent to you for a nightly fee. The rooms include one or two beds, a TV, wifi, some chairs, and a bathroom. Some rooms are, in fact, multiple rooms. These are called suites. You call ahead or use the internet to reserve a room for the amount of time you want to stay there. Upon arrival you fill out some paperwork at the front desk and they give you a key to the room.
Glad to be of service.

It sounds like to me the reserved rooms are 1) some group rate that might be hard to beat on your own (at another 5star anyway) 2) connected together so you and your family and friends will be central to each other, bopping into each other's rooms, seeing each other at the pool and other common areas, etc. 3) easy to run up to your room to grab a jacket, or put away your shopping, etc. 4) charging stuff to your room while at the pool, spa, etc.
I wouldn't think of staying anywhere other than with the party, because believe me, I've done it before, where either I or others in my family upgraded or downgraded for whatever reason closeby and it sucks. Don't do that. It comes across really antisocial, might offend someone in the party for some damn reason, but you also run the risk of having no fun. Some of the highlights of a big family reunion or group vacation is something that is easily said on a whim, and ended up being great fun, like that one room with the margaritaville blender, and ordered in crazy snacks while everyone hung out.
Peeked at the pics, looks like the rooms are comfy enough. And it was voted as Nevada's best spa hotel... The only downside I can think of? That you can't easily afford it. The spa prices are about double the going rates from top spa's I've been to around the world. What's your room rate quoted? It's certainly a nice place :D
