Things to do in Connecticut? I've lived here for a while but have never really had an opportunity to explore it or "live" some experiences of it besides hiking my backyard trails.

Lived here all my life. Appalachian Trail is ok, Holiday Hill if you have kids, New Haven is decent if you stick to yale, and Casinos are alright if you're into that. But besides that we live in the most boring state in all of America. I live in West Haven right now near the beach and used to live in Bridgeport in case you were wondering

Grew up in CT as well. There's a thriving punk scene in New London (check the bar named "33") if you're into that sort of thing, some artists spaces, and Sailfest in July.
Middletown has myriad novelty bars (places like Eli Cannon's), and the rich-kid art school (Wesleyan) ensures that there's always a large number of college-age kids out being assholes. More artspaces.
Hartford has bars (a whole block filled with bars for 20 somethings in downtown), it has some theaters (for plays) and The Hartford Forum where they host speakers and debates. If you're looking for a better nightlife in the Hartford area check Adrian's Landing (a smaller section in downtown), the West End of Hartford, and West Hartford, including West Hartford Center and Blueback Square. Best bars for dates are Bin 221, which is a small wine bar downtown, and The Shish Kebab House of Afghanistan which is restaurant/bar/hookah lounge in West Hartford Center. if you like to kayak, there are a lot of races in the warmer months around the state, and Hartford is built upon a series of underground rivers that can be accessed through the CT river. It's called the "Hog River" and it's an unmapped series of tunnels that run beneath the city, so you can go exploring if you want.
UCONN in Storrs has an "adventure park" which includes a bunch of ziplines and climbing between trees on rope ladders and shit.
There's a small portion of the Appalachian Trail like the other anon said on Bear Mountain. It's a good hike, and there are group camping spots south of the trail-head that are rarely used and further removed from the trail, so you can have fires even though it's against the rules.
You gotta be more specific with what you want to do, though.

Hiking, camping, urban exploration, stuff on atlasobscura are the things that usually peak my interest, and I had no idea about kayaking in Hartford, sounds real cool

Former CT resident here. One place where I spent a lot of time when I was young was Tod's Point in Greenwich. The beach itself is kind of underwhelming, but there's some very beautiful scenery and fauna if you're willing to go off the beaten path.

I recall there being some irritating parking restrictions for those without a permit, but I'm not entirely sure if those are still in place.

Are you me? Used to go there often when I lived in Greenwich as a kid

You should explore Western Massachusetts some time if it isn't too far from you. Beautiful hiking, great little cities like Amherst and Northampton to check out (amazing pizza joints and arts communities).

Check out the Mansfield Training Center just off UCONN campus. It's a series of old buildings where the mentally unstable were housed and has been closed since the 90s. There is a heavy police presence because they know kids go in there all the time. The easiest means of entrance is through the steam tunnels that connect all the buildings in the complex. There are grates on the surface (like any sewer grates) that you'll find scattered on the ground amongst the various buildings, as long as they haven't been sealed. Bring rubber boots, and don't be afraid to go down the long dark, there is a power pant at the end.
There's also Undercliff Sanatorium in Meriden. It's been closed for a long time, but is at the top of a hill on which is housing for adult wards of the state. Security is very tight.
A hospital recently closed down in Middletown (I can't remember the name), it's worth a look if you're in the area.

Ah, almost forgot: there's also Seaside Sanatorium in Waterford. It's in a state park and I've never seen any cops there. It's close enough to people's homes that if you're loud and obnoxious you'll get the cops called on you. Last time I was there I slipped in through a window about 2ft wide in the seaside face of the building, but my buddy had gone in with a grappling hook and rope a week or so before that.
Also, the UCONN training center is across the street from an abandoned minimum security prison. I've never been in there, but I wouldn't recommend fucking with it.
New Britain has a bunch of places I also wouldn't recommend because they tend to be junkie dens.
Part of the old Colt factory in Hartford as easily accessed from the street, but it's extremely risky and there's literally nothing of interest in there, just an empty building. The intersection of Albany Ave and Scarborough street in Hartford has an abandoned Hartford Hospital satellite building. It's fairly large, but I've never been inside. EMTs hang out there on shift, and it's near a fairly busy intersection.
