Hey /trv/ going to singapore for about a week for my mates 21st

What are some cool things to see (I've only been to japan) and what is the nightlife like?
>>

It's quite a tame city desu. A bit too sanitised for my liking, and very expensive. I dunno about the nightlife.

But the the food's amazing. There's a diaspora community for pretty much every people in South/South East Asia, which is kinda cool. The city itself looks good.

Jurong Bird Park is definitely worth checking out even if it doesn't sound like your thing.

I hear Geylang is off the chain, but that's from Singaporean.

>>1213992
It's not expensive. Just first world prices, and their currency is weak against the US dollar. I imagine even moreso for the Euro or Pound
>>
>>1214005
I stayed in the middle of Geylang for a few nights. During the day there was nothing special, cleaner than any Western city.
During the night I did avoid one guy while walking, he was really out of it. I tried to guess what it was, it wasn't alcohol or hash for sure, he was really wrecked, to a point I've only seen in movies before (and I have seen heroinists before, apparently not the most destroyed ones).
Also people selling some sort of pills openly on the corners, also don't know what it was, could have been nust Viagra.
Anyway, the food was the best and the cheapest in town by far. Greatest Indian and Chinese food I had in Singapore.
The hotel obviously had hourly prices, but it was really clean, comfy, new furniture, etc.
Something I had to laugh at how there was no security cameras on or near that street we stayed at. It was funny considering how big they are on CCTV everywhere else in Singapore.
Anyway, I would def recommend the area to any other cheap ass backpacker if they also happen to find themselves in Singapore for whatever reason.
The only annoying thing was how every Uber driver had this scared expression while picking us up... 'Oh, you know, this street is very...' Dodgy, eh? 'Very dangerous, especially for tourists.'
I tried to explain them about safety stats from our Eastern Euro hometown, but it obvioisly didn't go through.

I worked the docks on an oil rig for one fucking long hot month. I hated the place. They treat the Indians who work there like scum and sanitise everywhere else. For example they ban chewing gum but let hard working dockers sleep like dogs in the street with no help. Fuck Singapore.
>>
>>1214058
Not to mention that every small piece of grassy lawn has at least two Indians brooming it. Never seen something in my life like that. Pretty unnecessary.
>>
>>1214066
The Bangladeshi lads were carted to work in the back of fuckin lorries which had signs on them telling them not to throw rubbish off them! No seat belts is ok in the eyes of the law but rubbish wasn't. Cunts.
>>
Thanks for the replies we're all australian, sounds like we should of chosen somewhere like Bali or Thailand because we would mainly like to party.

Will I meet lots of other backpackers/tourists over there?
>>
I lived there for 6 months as a 20 year old, I would really only recommend going if you're staying for more than a month or so

>>1214114
The nightlife is not bad at all (I've never been to Aus but as an American it's not bad).. obviously it won't be as wild as BKK or KL but it's better than Bali which is more or a couple's resort place from what I hear
You probably won't meet any backpackers because the city is so modern and well taken care of that none of the Real Travelers go there because they don't get any street cred for bragging about going to it
you may meet a few tourists but I would say probably not, most of the foreigners you are going to meet will be working expats and you're going to meet a shit load of them since 1/3 of the island is foreigners and depending on where you go out some clubs really seem to have way more non locals than locals
>>
>>1214137
Why more than a month?
Is it to get to know the other expats?
>>
I live here.
Drugs are possible, just gotta party with cool people.

Best thing about my country is the food. Worst thing to me is the... "cleanliness"? Isn't that a strange thing to complain about though?

To party, go to Clarke Quay. LOTS of clubs in Singapore. The latest closing one that i go to is a club called Bang Bang. It's at the Pan Pacific hotel.
>>
>>1214284
Bang Bang is closing? that's sad
also how is Zouk now that it moved to CQ? I left the day before it reopened at CQ

>>1214144
Not just the expats but yeah.. Singapore nightlife is definitely fun (and like the other anon said you should just go to Clarke Quay if you guys are all around 18-24) but it becomes incredible when you actually make the right connections

The last few months I was there I was dating two girls
One of them was from another country and was just going to school there so her parents were rich as fuck and should would go out 4x a week and buy a bottle almost every night so I literally did not have to spend any money if I didn't want to
The other girl was 17 but her mom was really well connected with club owners and so she could go to certain clubs and would always get a complimentary top shelf bottle, so once again I didn't have to pay for anything and was able o get into some of the better clubs

Most people will go out 3 or 4 nights a week and always to the same club so if y'all hit the same clubs for that week you're in town you'll start to recognize some people (mostly girls)
>>
Chomp Chomp food center has pretty nice local food.Thasevi in Jalan Kayu has some decent Indian-Muslim food.Gardens by the Bay is rather interesting.I'm not familiar with the nightlife.I dont get why people come to Singapore really, there isnt much to see here imo
>>
>>1214296
He ment that bang bang is the club that is open the latest

Solid post cheers mate
