Just rode my first Amtrak this weekend. The ride itself was fun, but sleeping on those trains is impossible. I was in a friend's sleeper car top bunk, and I was tossed around so much that I could never fall asleep.
Are trains normally so bumpy?
unless you're riding a maglev there's going to be some bumps
think american track might be worse because it's mostly for freight
rode amtrak once for 60 hours, might have slept for 8 of them
What route did you take? I'd love to hear more about your (or anyone else's) Amtrak experience. I have it in my head that I'd really like to go on a long train ride one of these days, but I'm willing to be convinced otherwise.

Trains in Europe are usually way smoother than Amtrak from my experience. Although that experience is pretty much limited to the Bay Area capitol corridor.

Western Europe, that is. Eastern Europe and the Balkans are an entirely different story ofc.
At least its not the bus.
