What advice would you give to someone who's traveling by themself internationally for the first time?
Age/sex/nationality and where are you going exactly?

22yo male from Mexico. I'm going 7 months to Japan in an exchange student program. Never been overseas.

Ok well, Japan is very safe so that's good.
When you land and leave the airport, it will get real. You will have a cultural shock like "What the FUCK am I doing here?!" It's only temporary though, it happens when you leave your comfort zone and enter the unknown

Male from Mexico that went on my first overseas trip to Japan last year, I guess I can give you some pointers given the similarity. Mine was a shorter stay but I hope it helps anyway.
>Our exchange rate right now is shit so you should save up beforehand unless you aren't hurting for money.
>Everyone I met was incredibly friendly and understood english or you could get around with gestures, so don't worry too much about the language barrier
>bring a portable battery because they are a godsend through longs days
>food is great so you won't probably get homesickness, I expect
>as >>1210751 said, Japan is very safe, I felt no worries at all walking through the streets at night alone.
>As soon as left customs in the airport I did paralyze for a while, since I didn't have a plan at all. If you are going on an exchange program, be sure to have all the info to where you are going first and how you are getting there, if you are alone. If you are in a group I guess it will be easier.
>I'd recommend taking some money in USD since it'll be easier to exchange. You can withdraw in yens from most cashiers (like the ones at 7-11) at a very small fee, but be careful since I had troubles trying to withdraw on weekends, so plan ahead.
Any other specifics?

Thanks guys. I appreciate the input.
Would you recommend me trusting my bank (Banamex) to do the exchange conversion for me when I withdraw cash from a japanese ATM or purchase something with my mex card? Or should I just make the exchange myself before I depart?
Also, I'm really anxious about airport security. What would you recommend the most to make it a stress-free experience?
