Met one at a hostel in Vienna. He'd been traveling Europe for 5 months at the time. Told me he'd been drunk every night. His routine was getting up at 3-4 in the afternoon, going to McDonalds, staying there for a few hours to nurse his hangover and sustain himself, before going back to the hostel bar to drink himself into oblivion and hitting on very young girls again.

Sounds familiar to an Australian I met in SF a few years ago. He suspected that he had broken one or more bones in his foot but he didn't have insurance and didn't want to go home yet so he just tried to stay as drunk and stoned as he possibly could. I suggested he go to Canada or Mexico to get his foot taken care of, but "nah fuck it."

Last summer I was in Brussels, this nice little corner stand where some hippie looking guy was selling bread. The fucker was huge, must've been 6 foot 4, looked like a body builder. I asked if he was an Aussie, I shit you not he gave me a vegemite sandwich.

I had a guy who tried to get people to drink more beers and go for a pub crawl at 7am when he's so obliterated, he got lost in a single storey hostel.

but on the upside, they buy drinks in rounds and don't quarrel

British lad packs start more fights, and have no respect for public transport
however they are less annoying during the day

Australian here, the lad packs are easy as fuck to approach and talk shit with. I think it's just a cultural thing, just go up and talk to them like you've known them your entire life. You will not find a more accepting bunch of legends in your life.

Just don't be spergs, go up and spin a yarn. We might be a bit annoying if you're looking for some downtime but I honestly don't think that's an issue. Just go somewhere that isn't a crowded public place.

I was in Berlin, traveling alone, and shared a 6 bed hostel room with 5 Aussie guys (I'm a chick) who were there to PARTY and fuck they were funny. They had stocked up on MDMA/ E pills and Ket and the relevant vitamines for recovery. Day one they started their night by each sticking 2 pills up their asses and doing a bunch of ket. I joined them to a club where the drugs really hit them... waited while one guy went to the toilet. He returned and said he'd just railed a bunch more ket and then be proceeded to K-hole in the middle of the club. I was not familiar with this phenomenon and paniced. I found some of his friends and told them he fucking needed help. His bestfriend slapped him across the face, told him to "stop being such a soft cock" and then recommended he get some speed to counter the K. It was a long night. When we returned to the hostel in the morning they all took their vitamins and a fuck ton of valum and got a good days sleep.

These guys were not sober for a single waking moment that week.
