Is travelling to break away republics as fun as it seems or is it just a meme?
>>
I enjoyed my stay in Nagorno Karabakh.

I liked Transnistria. Those small "nations" really want to try to prove their existence to the rest of the world, so they're always happy to see foreigners.
>>
I also enjoyed NK. But I get a boner with geopolitics.

That's my impression. Not OP but I'm planning a road trip from Romania to Tiraspol in September this year for their independence parade. Might also check out the Gagauz capital, which is a more obscure version of Transnistria but with Turk commies in Moldova, in stead of Russians.

Saaaame here, also applies for generally unknown places. Turkmenistan, Karabakh, Abkhazia, Ossettia, separatist places.

I saw the wiki list for short-lived cou.tries, a lot lasted only a few years. I kept thinking it must have been cool to visit in the few years it was independent. Sadly, places like Transnistria are only temporary, I know there's been a lot of talk about Moldova/Romania unification. That would put Tiraspol and Chisinau in thr EU, spiking tensions and making Ukraine 2: Russian Boogaloo, but when that happens Transnistria will dry up and be forgotten.
>>
I have been to all of these.
>NK
Not really worth it. There is nothing worth seeing there that you couldn't see in the rest of Armenia. It's a beautiful region though.
>Transnistria
To be honest I thought this place was totally boring. I mean, it was funny in the meme way, to see hammer and sickle still used unironically, that sort of thing. But it was kind of deserted and people seemed really poor and unhappy. Never had beggars come up to me in Ukraine or Moldova, but 2 in a day in Tiraspol. It's worth seeing it as a stopover from Odessa to Chisinau, but eh.. don't understand why anybody would hang around there for long.
>Abkhazia
Beautiful place. It used to be one of the prime destinations for Soviet tourism and when you go there it will become apparent why. Incredibly beautiful coastline, fantastic wine, good food.

Nigger have you not been to Shushi or Agdam?
>>

Surprising, I heard that Abkhazia was one of the least interesting of all the destinations, or at least the least traveled to. I might have to start saving. Any recommendations?

I enjoyed Northern Cyprus a lot but it is kinda just a meme
>>
>>1206964
You made me want to travel to places I can't spell without looking it up, as a thing.

Tfw you never reached the Agdam mosque

>abkhazia

Absolute shithole. It's basically mafia controlled territory, and most of locals will try to cheat you with prices. And even normal prices are overpriced.

It's better to stay in Russia or Georgia if you want to enjoy mountains or sea.

Stopped by soldiers? Me too, but I asked if I could check it out anyway, so they sent two guys to escort me to it, and they showed me a kick ass mural too.

a few years ago whilst in georgia i met a germany guy who went to abkhazia.

when he tried to leave, he travelled to the border with georgia to find it was closed and there were no guards around. two men mugged him and stole his wallet & passport.

as it is a contested territory, no countries have a consulate there. he was trapped for two weeks and only managed to leave when he had a chance meeting with a foreign red cross worker.
>>
I remember hearing a few years ago that if you visit Abkhazia, you could meet the President.
