Has anyone ever been to Russia I'm thinking of going in may to Moscow

Nobody has ever been to Russia on here. Truly the RealTraveler™ destination that we all aspire to achieve someday. Please post pics of your travels when you do go OP.
>>

I'll make you all proud then, I always wondered how come I've never seen Russia threads here

may is a good time for visiting Moscow.
t. russian
>>
>>1204204
I agree.
About Moscow, I think it deserves at least one whole week for visit it:
- Red Square
- Gum restroom (no joke)
- Kremlin
- Christ S. Saviour
- Park Pobedy
- Trechakova Gallery
- Vdnkh
- Gorki Park
- MSU (pics only - there is a place near its hills where I drank a coconut juice with cucumber which was GOAT)
- Subway stations
- Izmailovsky park for souvenirs
.
.
.
You can try to go to Sergev-Posad (1h30 by train) and see the center of Russian Orthodox Church - if you are not budget, you can pay for a Golden Ring tourist pack (logistically impossible for backpakers).
If you go to St. Petersburg, save one day for Hermitage and another for Peterhof.
>>
>>1204182
They exist pretty often desu.
>>
Im heading to Russia in March.

Moscow 2 days
Yekaterinburg 5 days
Magnitogorsk 4 days
Yekaterinburg 5 days
Moscow 1 day

Ita mainly a snowboarding trip with girlfriend to catch the end of thier season. Should be fun.
>>
The dumbest list of banal sights. It's not about Russia or Moscow. It's like want to see stature of liberty in NYC.

Some nice places

Hint: there's a Kamchatka bar behind ZUM mall, near Bolshoy Theater. It's made to be like typical 90s Russian shithole restaurant, serving shitty beer and food from that epoch for extremely low prices. Ton of experience.

And don't miss their restroom, it's truly an art piece.

It can be a quite unpleasant experience unless you stay in nice hotels and eat in nice restaurants.

The metro does have no english signage. You have to compare the station on an english map. I even got turned away in fast food restaurants for trying to order in english. Even in St. Petersburg they wont be able to understand one cheeseburger please. Beijing feels incredible english friendly compared to moscow.

It might be a cultural thing but staff is rude as fuck and i usually dont care at all. Even at the better museums they have terrible attitude.

Be prepared to get a sim card and google everything by yourself.

Its okay i guess but dont expect any form of service or help. Its expensive as well. Considering the invitation you need russia is probably one of the worst places for visiting.
>>

>It might be a cultural thing but staff is rude as fuck and i usually dont care at all.

Thats moscow. They are rude as fuck there, but it got better in the last years. I've been several times from 2003 - 2009 and it was horrible, last year I was again there after a brake and I was pleasently surprised.
Don't know about St. Peteresburg.

In general you can say that the Asian part of Rusia is way more friendly.

Ayyy, going there in March too. Beginning or end of month? Have you been able to book airline tickets yet? I haven't, they all say theyll only go as far a as a full year.
>>
>>1212651
Tickets booked. I made sure to apply for visa in January so it could all be taken care of by now. Cities have change but i got flights and still staying in close area

March 16- april 3

And yeah its this year, as in 5 weeks. Not a year and 5 weeks haha
>>
>>1212800
Lmao shit sorry I forgot to specify. I'll miss you guys by a year lol

Was the visa process difficult? You just call the Russian embassy in your country and ask how to apply, right? That's what I read online
>>

Female to male vaginal transmission is a meme. Don't fuck ass, or eat her out, or French kiss for too long, and she can hiv+ and nothing will happen. Doggy your way through the aids infected lands as much as you want. Also, no blowjobs.
>>
>>1212806
Yeah, i will miss u by a long time hahaba. But i plan to make multiple trips, cant see it all in one time. Not sure what country u are from. Im from USA and there are many how to's all mostly the same to figure out visa process.

>go get passport photos
>get online and either have your hotel send u a formal invitation, or use a generic pay for invitation site like hotelspro i think is who i used.
>fill out online visa application, and specify your nearest consulate or processing center.
>i used an ILS visa processing center, small fee, but they fix your shit if u need, then they send to consulate and take care of it. It needs to all be correct before consualte looks at it.
>they also are in the business to make money. So they changed my visa, instead of a month visa like i wanted they just made me do a 3 year visa.

Easy process, i think waytorussia dot com has a guide on it
>>
>>1212861
>they just made me do a three year visa

Not that other anon but would that fuck up your application, if they thought you were going for three years? Wouldn't they want more info on you or be suspicious?
>>
>>1212911
Nope it was very straight forward. I filled out my application saying im going to X cities on X date. Applied. Went to Visa ILS center. They said, "we see your application, but we only do 3 year visa" aka we want more money.....

I said ok, they said, u can stay up to 6 months and then leave at a time. The first time u apply for visa they want to know exactly where u are going and for how long on application, but once u physically get there, you get a Migration card that gets registered where u stay, hotels do it for u when u check in, or you have your friends do it through a shitty process that seems difficult.

But either way, where u say u want to go and stay on your application does not have to correspond with where u actually are going, but i think it would be smart to keep them the same, especially first time.

Then in the future when u return, go through airport, get new migration card and repeat, u now have visa so u dont need to declare where u go and for how long, u give back migration card when u leave and they know where u went.
>>
>>1213091
By declare where u go, i mean specify ahead of time like in origional visa.

U always have to register migration card within a few business days, there are some technicalities and loop holes, but they all seem not well worded, and im not going to get banned for something as easy as paying a hostel to say i stayed there.

They expect migration card filled out upon exit, but whether they look or care i have heard mixed stories, but better safe than sorry

Girls won't be jumping over you because you come from >insert western country< if that's what you're thinking... unless they're just wanting to nab you are wallet in the first 5 minutes.

>Average income
Yeah, you won't be having to compete against anyone. In their eyes they will see you as someone that has a comfortable way of life... but not wealthy. The wealth of Moscow spends their free time drag racing G-Wagons and Range Rover SVRs... sometimes a Rolls Royce might join in too - are you apart of this club?

Just thought I'd also add:
>don't be scared of police, we only had positive encounters with them when we asked for assistance (directions etc etc). Make an attempts in Russian and they'll appreciate it. It seems that they don't mind tourists, they just dislike garish tourists. No 'HEY BOZO, HOW DO WE GET TO THIS HERE KRASNAYA SQUARE?' You'll probably get asked for your passport in that case...
>in general, manners go a long way with Russians. They appreciate it.
>If you get a sim with Beeline, dial *102#. Not 102. Otherwise you're pizdets.
>If a girl comes up to you asking for charity money without a bucket, tell her to fuck right off - she wants to buy a cigarette with that.
>Steak is expensive
>Belorusskaya Hata is a great place to eat and the owner is really nice. He might give you free beer and tea if you get on with him. Top guy.
>Alcoholism is a meme unless you're in the countryside. For my entire period in Moscow/Saint Petersburg I saw less drunk people than I would in a single night back home.
>Slav fights are duels - if Ivan does not have stick, Segei will break stick and share with Ivan. Then they fight

Also, if anyone sees Maдинa Кapлиeвa in Oбeд Бyфeт (S.Pb), tell her to fuck off and that she's a bitch.

U might not know, but maybe somone else will. Seems like u know alot.

Availability of american comfort foods in average cities not (not Piter, or Moscow).

Shitty food like Mac and Cheese, Brownie Mix, Peanut butter.

I have heard varying opinions, especially premade or premix box stuff. Some say yes, some no.

I want to bring food i eat occasionally that may not be available to Russian gf that we can share and enjoy. Whatever will work in checked baggage.

I also see you said steak was expensive, whats the price? She has never had one and i want to cook some.

Thanks

You can buy lots of good food there but also lots of shit food. We found a surprising amount of international food brands or international manufacturers that re-branded for Russia in both small and large shops.

Walkers(Lays)/Pringles/Nestle (Snickers/Mars etc etc) were at many shops. Just bring a variety of things. I can't really speak for brownie mix etc.

For steak in England that I'd pay £12.50 - £20 for, it'd be £40/£60 in Russia. This was definitely the case for Saint Petersburg... I'm sure it was the same for Moscow too.

>in average cities not (not Piter, or Moscow)

Chelyabinsk is on the list. Also i didnt specify im going to Miass and Bannoe to snowboard, so its not about "seeing rhe cities" as much as it is a place to stay with gf and enjoy some time inbetween mountains.

Also it was never really Magnitogorsk, im staying much closer to mountain Bannoe, and Abzakovo.

How is the weather in Moscow and St Petesburg in late March? Should I expect freezing temps and snow still?
>>
>>1215408
March can be pretty miserable, temps teetering around 0C, so snow melting during the day and refreezing at night. I'd recommend late April at least.
>>
>>1215456
How is August? I was there during December/January but would like to visit during an Autumn month - good skies/brown leaves, neither too hot or too cold etc etc. Is August too late or too early for that?
>>
>>1211703
There are fast (about 4hrs trip) trains between Moscow and SPB/Nizhny Novgorod, check out sapsan/strizh. If you are traveling anywhere along those routhes, those will be the best option, sans flying.
>>
>>1211703

>>1215458
This, look for Sapsan. Pretty rapid and comfy trains. As anon said, 4 hours for SPB and Moscow. Well priced too.
>>
>>1215457
August is still summer in full swing. It's a good time to visit, but if you want golden leaves I'd say very late-September to October.
