Yes, several hundred dollars (not including airfare) will be enough for three to four days, as long as you really count your pennies. Everything is imported there so it's an expensive place.

Why are you going for only three or four days? I'd highly recommend going longer. Stay in a hostel. The wildlife and beaches are beautiful. Also, Hawaii is not for partying and getting shit-faced. Most people go there to relax, get away from it all, and experience the beauty.

Planned on doing the big island but I'll definitely take your recommendation between the two. 3-4 days is just about all I manage as is thanks to work, but if 5-7 or some such is real difference maker, I'd definitely say fuck it and take the plunge. Luckily relaxing and sightseeing are exactly all that I plan on doing. I'm quite shy and only 19 anyways, so no worries about any grand delusions of getting smashed and banging the locals.

I go to Oahu a lot and the hobo in me believes that wild camping would be easy anywhere on Oahu, as long as you take precautions against wild pigs and don't drink out of the streams.
Buses are cheap and comprehensive, so you can get anywhere in the island easily.
You could either camp somewhere like Manoa Falls and take day trips into the city, or camp on the north shore and do fuck-all except hike and surf.

Hawaii looks fantastic and you should definately visit if you can.

I'll tell you this. If you've never travelled before and love beaches, you could also consider an all-inclusive resort in the carabeans.

>don't have to worry about shit for a week
>spend your afternoons chilling on the beach, chilling/drinking/swimming
>spend your evenings drinking with other guests at the lobby bar
>ton of singles and high probability of sex

But then again it's a different experience and provides less "adventure". I was simply suggesting it as it's a great solo trip for a 1st-time traveller
