Who the fuck makes someone check in a laptop case?

I just fucking had to pay 265€ to check in a god damn small ass laptop bag in addition to 85€ I already paid for a second bag because I had a backpack. How pitiful is fucking KLM/Delta that they need to nickel and dime their customers? They wouldn't even fucking let me stick it in my suitcase.

To make things even worse there are two Americans sitting across from me right now and they each have multiple carry ons and didn't pay for a single one. This bitch has a purse, laptop bag, backpack, and a fucking rolling suitcase and she didn't pay jack shit.

I am so damn angry and fuming right now that this motherfucker is about to burn down.

normally you can check in 1 piece of luggage, have 1 carry-on and 1 additional smaller bag you keep with yourself (laptop bag, handbag etc.), I'm assuming with KLM too

What was their reasoning for this?
>>
>>1184167
The ticketing agent gave me no reason at all. I had just paid to check in two suitcases and then she tells me I can't have two cabin bags, so a backpack and a laptop bag which is basically a wrapped laptop in my hand. She didn't let me stick it in my suitcase as it was already gone and then charged me 265€ or whatever the price is for a 3rd bag. I am so furious right now. There's probably a huge possibility that my laptop gets destroyed or goes missing somewhere during my next 3 flights.
>>
>>1184164
it's a classic rip-off pioneered by budget airlines, but mainstream carriers are increasing relying on fees+charges to make money instead of a straight price

you just have to read the fine print
one piece means one piece; not two small pieces, not two pieces tied together

I put my laptop case inside my checked luggage, or put all my travel shit in it as well and use it as carry on
>>
>>1184176
I've flown nearly a hundred times before and this has never happened. Hell, even Ryanair and Norwegian air allowed me to bring 2 carry ons without problems. I never excepted such a thing from legacy carriers. It's a disgrace to charge someone x2 the price of the ticket for a simple hand held bag.
>>
>>1184164
Full disclaimer, I am a skymiles card holder, but internationally I get two checked at 50 kg, and two carryons plus a personal bag. I traveled with pelican case laptop case, plus another Pelican case, and a Targus backpack, in addition to two checked bags. This was Delta/KLM. Hell I am typing this on a Delta plane coming from Korea. I have a Swiss laptop bag now, that is over the size/carryon limit. No issue. One thing I appreciate about Skyteam, though higher prices than budget lines, I don't feel nickel amd dimed

you should go complain, looking at their luggage policy they do allow one cabin bag and an additional laptop bag

>General free hand baggage allowance
Hand baggage Economy Class total max. 12 kg
Economy Class on European and intercontinental flights

1 x hand baggage max. 55 x 35 x 25 cm (21,5 x 13,5 x 10 inch)
1 accessory, e.g. a handbag, briefcase or laptop, max. 40 x 30 x 15 cm (16 x 12 x 6 inch)
Total weight max. 12 kg (26 lbs).

Really now?

Pic related; OP's pic, or a slight variation thereof.

You get essentially 2 items on the plane as the "carryon" on Delta, but if you can combine your personal item into it at the gate, you should.
There is an overhead sized bag....which can always be forced to be checked if the flight is full, especially during winter when people have big coats, but they don't charge you for it if it was the proper size, it's just them cleaning out a full cabin to expedite a speedier less confused boarding if they do that. KLM might be more bitchy, but that's not a Delta policy to grab a laptop bag and check it, only if you had too many carryons.

The second item is indeed a personal item that must be kept uncomfortably under your feet cause that's where they want it, not in the overhead. Did you put both items above you on a full flight?

I'm also going to ask you if you were last one to board, and the overheads were full, and rather than shuffle other people around, they simply said "let's go" and grabbed your shit to check. If you flew standby ever, you'd know that is one of the issues with it, so you have to have a game plan in mind of what you'll keep under your feet, as far as valuables and paperwork related to your trip (should bags be lost/delayed/stolen).

The person across the aisle from you? Well, might have priority boarded and get past the gate agents with an illegal amount of bags, but if they had been asked, could have shoved the purse and coat into the overhead bag and consolidated, you just didn't know that.

So, I'm talking about Delta here. The other airlines? They're charging for a 1st checked bag, carry-on, you name it. It's kind of a pain to know the differences, but it does help to join their frequent flyer clubs, can get a free bag with some of them, or get the Delta AMEX. I would write to Delta by email to explain your problem in the email mention.Polite but detailed description. Protip: mention you will be contacting the DOT if the refund does not happen.

Look at the board rule list. Not the sticky, but the official 4Chan rules. No frog pics. At least not in OP

>and two carryons plus a personal bag.
It's two carryons and a "personal item" which really needs to fit into the underseat carryon space with the underseat bag together. Think fanny pack, small purse, flat magazine bag, umbrella. That kind of thing. Have a full sized third item isn't allowed. First class passengers and business class? They don't get confronted much, of course.
>>
wait you actually allowed to them to take your laptop into the checked baggage? You realize you will receive a bag full of jigsaw puzzle pieces when you arrive, right? did you see how they handle checked-in luggage at all?

you should have tried to stick the laptop into your other carry-on. Hell, if you had to have an extra check-in then combine whichever way possible your stuff but don't check in fragile equipment.
>>
>>1184238
He should get a simple sleeve for the laptop, and slip it into the backpack. A separate laptop bog isn't necessary.

I checked in 2.5 hours before departure at Berlin TXL before a short flight to Amsterdam. My final location is somewhere in America however. The ticketing agent charged me and made me check in my laptop case/briefcase as I was checking in at the front baggage drop off so I hadn't yet made it onboard any flights. I had just checked in two bags, paid 85€ for the second, and then she asked me to weigh my carry on, so the backpack, and then saw my laptop bag hanging from my shoulder and told me I can't have two carry ons. I told her this is just my laptop and very important documents but her reasoning is that my combined weight of my backpack and laptop bag was something like 14kg, so overweight, and that she wouldn't let me onboard with it. I was also unable to pay excess weight for a carry on so I was required to check it in, for 265€...

The ticket was purchased from delta but iirc the agent was a dual air France/KLM employee.

>>1184238
At that point I was so fed up with her rude bullshit and it was either check it in or I won't make the flight. If they destroy it I am going to be sending delta the bill as soon as this plane hits the ground. My backpack was packed to full capacity so there was no way I could put it inside.

>>1184243
It was a laptop bag with a few other things like documents and cables but nothing outrageously large. I've flown numerous times with the exact backpack and laptop bag and never once had any problems, even with budget airlines.
>>
>>1184281
Adding onto this, I have a pretty bad feeling my bags will also not arrive at my final destination. For some reason a guy at the US immigration approval checkpoint in Amsterdam thought I was nervous so he decided to conduct a nearly two hour long full body and bag check along with an interrogation about my last 2 years. They thought that 3 carry ons were quite suspicious so they most likely pulled them out to check them. I barely made my flight. They had to escort me to my gate and then when I scanned my pass it said "flight closed; unable to board" but they manually overrided it and I was literally the last one on this flight. I have a feeling my bags aren't as lucky...
>>
>>1184232
My personal item was a backpack. That I can fit under the seat, plus two pelican cases as carry ons. One of those being a laptop case.
>>
>>1184281
Delta clearly states that the hand luggage rules of the operating carrier (ie, KLM) apply. The check in agent merely enforced rules that exist for safety and regulatory purposes. And as you say, the weight of your hand luggage exceeded these rules by a fair margin.

Next time just travel lighter or familiarise yourself with the luggage rules beforehand.

If your checked luggage was damaged, Delta is only liable for up to €1500.

>>1184227
>no frog pics
This isn't a rule, doesn't say anything about frogs or Pepe anywhere in the global rules. Mods are just being fags once again. Seems they're a lot worse on this board than on any other one, for some reason.

This is why I am a DM elite and not a pleb like OP. Would never have that happen to me. Always board premium, 90% first class free upgrade rate.
