What do I need to know before moving to a different state? How much is a good amount to save up? Tips, advice? I am moving from California to Idaho, Wyoming or Montana.

I just went through a similar situation, moved from Georgia to Wisconsin. Based on the areas you've mentioned, I would say that you should make sure that you're prepared for the winter before you move.
As far as saving money, you would ideally have at least 3 months of expenses saved.

Northern idaho is full of skin heads.

But also pretty great, the bars give you to go beers and shit for your drive home.

Idaho is one of the most free and do your own kind of thing state, hell even in rural areas u aint calling the police, better be able to take care of yourself.

Good luck!

Maybe a few dozen, total. Most of the people are normal.
The worst problem are the other crazy drug-using white people.

>Good amount to save up
It depends on what line of work you're in, where you're form, what your current COL is. Save up 6 months of COL, especially if you don't have a job lined up.

The weather isn't that bad (I'm a San Diego -> Idaho transplant). The first winter might kick your ass (especially driving) but you'll figure it out.

The job market is particularly bad outside of the service industry. There are few programmers here, you basically have to live in the Cd'A/Spokane area or Boise (there are exceptions, obviously).

If you have specific questions I'll have specific answers.

I moved from arkansas to washington this august.

Luckily for me, I had a room to live in at family's house to get my shit together, until I got a job.

I have no idea how one would just pack up their shit and move, without resources there.

If you call a job resources, I think that's the way. In my industry, it's very common to negotiate for a relocation fee.
