I've been to iceland twice and the West fjords are the best part. I doubt you will be able to get there in December though. Honestly I would cancel and go back in the early summer.

Yes but roads are closed, hostels and hotels are closed, restaurants are closed, and daylight is severely limited while rain/snow extremely likely.

If what you want to do is poke around Reykjavik's indoor "attractions," yeah, it's a fine time to be there.

To see more of the country but not be swamped in too many tourists, go in March when thing are starting to thaw but the rush is not on yet.

Do you realize that away from Reykjavik many roads are difficult to traverse due to weather conditions, that many places to stay and eat are closed, that there are few if any days without precipitation and few hours of daylight?

Stick to the tarmac while driving, the snow hides deep ditches.

The places I enjoyed most on iceland had 10 feet of snow on the sides of the road in may.

If the gorgeous Texan girl you're alone with in the naturally-heated sauna makes overtly sexual comments and moves close to you, don't be so uncomfortable and awkward that you change the conversation to how you wish the weather that night would've allowed you to see the northern lights. And from then on she assumes you had a gf or something...

come to north Iceland. Akureyri, mytvatn, husavik, siglufjordur.

Can drive from Reykjavik. Go skiing, snowmobil, see nature and alot of snow. I live in Akureyri, its dope would mind helping you out.

Aww this guy is supernice OP. It would be lovely if you could hang out with a local for a while. But you might have to fly there to his town.

I'm going to suggest that you can't really know exactly the driving weather until you get there. Snow, wind, etc, you get luck when you travel from intolerable wind and cold to maybe some mild conditions. And, oh, the geysirs are cool, but I guess you've seen the ones in NZ? North America?
