Wanting to go to Asia for the first time, I'll have about a week. I'm looking into Hong Kong as a coworker traveled there and raved about it.
What do you guys think, any other cities to consider? Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City?
Budgets around ~$3000 CAD, will be traveling light with a 35L backpack only.

Beijing and Shang Hai, maybe Taiwan. I'd keep it to China and a few places, though.

Because of the time, I'd restrict myself to 2-3 places, and only within a couple of hours, 3 max via air. Leaving the country adds travel time because of immigration.

You can most likely go to Hong Kong and Bangkok without a visa. For Vietnam and mainland China you need to get a visa in advance.
