What are some good places to visit in the pic-related area? Has anyone been here? What can I expect?

>what can I expect
it will be very expensive. I'd say more but the mods don't like it when you tell the truth.
Pretty similar all over. Doha is trying to become the next Dubai, but it's still under construction. Bahrain is where all the Saudis go on weekends to drink and fuck hookers. Abu Dhabi is kinda like Dubai, and it has Ferrari world.
None of them are really authentic.

AD is more socially traditional, and less tourist-focused. Though that is changing. I found it to be a nice change from Dubai.
>authentic
They are all absolutely authentic for what they are. Maybe you aren't interested in what they are, fair enough. Everybody can like different stuff

Hope over to Oman!

I lived in Bahrain for 9 months and loved it

Yes and no. The only thing I found really expensive was club drinks, which were on par with club drinks in cities/nicer clubs. American/Western retail was more expensive than back home, on average. But not shopping at places like MAX or Splash. Not to mention the souq or other markets. If everything was prohibitively expensive no way all theose third worlders could afford to live there .

What did he mean by this?

These places are built on large amounts of oil money, its nice and shiny but it kinda covers up the sordid underbelly of what really goes in a place like Dubai

The sordid underbelly was my favorite part. That's where the authenticity lied
Google image search Musandam. Bring a snorkel and good hiking boots.
