I have four days in January to play around with in Asia. Where should I go?
A. Shanghai (can use transit visa)
B. Vietnam (probably the north)
C. Cambodia (Angkor Wat and Siem Reap)
For reference, I've liked Japan, Taiwan, and Northern Thailand the best in Asia, while liking Malaysia and Bangkok the least.
Where should I go?

Either B or C, bro. You won't like Shanghai... I was in Vietnam and Cambodia 3 years ago and loved it.
Last year I went to Shanghai and just hated it.
Four days is a solid trip to Angkor. It's also about as long as I could enjoy Siem Reap, a town of which I am not fond (parts are OK, but it's been insanely overdeveloped for tourism--sort of feels like the entire city is Khao San Rd, albeit a bit higher-end).

what did you hate about shanghai? I'm thinking of going for a few days at the end of the year.

I spent two days poking through stuff around Siem Reap last year, wish I had spent a few more. If that sort of stuff interests you at all, there is a lot of it there!
Probably best to do some research before you go, not only to find sites that you want to see, but also to have some sense of what you are looking at other than just "wow, ruins." Some history is worth knowing before going.

Visit a main island of Japan you haven't travelled yet. You'll enjoy it far more than monkey infested hell holes south.

Not that Anon, but I found Shanghai to be lacking in character. It was just a Chinese city. I didn't mind the place it just wasn't all that interesting for me.
Even the neighbouring cities of Hangzhou and Suzhou were much more interesting. I'd recommend both as they are only a short trip on the bullet train.
I'd recommend Beijing over shanghai any day. Or if you want a more "sci-fi" city go to Hong Kong.
