Is it possible to fly across the Atlantic or Pacific for under a grand?

I want to travel, but not domestically. Japan, Scandinavia, the UK, etc. Any tips on frugal traveling besides hostels and sucking lots of dick?

Read sticky for where to look for airfares. Where you start your trip makes a big difference.

Just the plane ticket under a grand or everything under a grand?

Plane ticket round trip is $800-$1200 for almost any international flight I can find including package deals. Kayak, skyscanner, etc.

Singapore Airlines was having a great sale recently-- R/T from SFO or LAX to a bunch of cities in Asia for $650. Budget carrier prices for Singapore, which is a plush airline.

Just got a r/t direct flight Chicago to Amsterdam on Lufthansa for $390

This is from Germany to US round trip

Airliner?

I just bought 14 flights touching 16 different countries, including crossing the Atlantic ocean twice, for a total of $1250. It is possible if you look hard enough.
Crossing the Pacific is more costly simple because of the sheer distance. You could sometimes get to Eastern Asia cheaper via Europe.

You could try hitching a cargo ship.

Norwegian airlines have trips to USA from Europe at around $500. Same to Thailand.

This a million times OP
The good deals and budget airlines almost exclusively service larger metropolitan airports. I was in the same pinch as you trying to find a decent flight under $1000 but I was looking at flights from my town in essentially bumfuck nowhere. Check out Chicago, Seattle, Boston or wherever the nearest significant airport may be. You will save literally hundreds of dollars.

Hitch a ride, pay a friend/relative, take a train or a bus, shit you could practically buy a craigslist used car and scrap it after 500 miles and still come out ahead if you switch the right airports.

I just bought a one way ticket from Norway to L.A. for 150$ through Norwegian.
