Van dweller here, came into a few bucks and thinking about putting something like pic related together and driving from Alaska all the way down to the tip of south america.
I have never lived in my van outside the US.
How tough is it in mexico and points south to be a van dweller?

I don't think there are any roads between Panama and Colombia. You'll have to take a ferry.
Also driving through the mountains in latin america is dangerous. Some of those roads are crazy.

Don't take such a nice and expensive van like that through central america or northern south america.
You gonna get killed like that.
Get an old but reliable ford transit or merc sprinter.
It's worth spending extra for a used mercedes with a good service history btw, if it's been serviced at a mercedes you get free breakdown cover and a courtesy vehicle/time in hotels and shit while it gets repaired.

admittedly not in much of south america, but it will cover north america and may still be of some use near the southern cone
I really don't know, but I would fear that they might think you were hiding something good in there. My guess is you may get stopped and searched a few times. I would have nothing that I couldn't lose. Remember to take any parts you might need and extra tires and gas cans.
Keep us posted if you do it, I think it might be an epic adventure.

Those are very expensive in the US and A. The chevy will be much cheaper.
