So I originally came here with the intent of asking how one begins to enter the world of travelling, as I figured that /trv/ would be the go to. But then, while reading through the board to make sure my question wasn't asked already, I saw the cancer that you folks seem to have. So I figured I'd try to be useful and make a thread about simple tips. Beginning traveller stuff, region specific tips, general advice even veterans might need, that sorta thing. I didn't see something like this, so why not. Hopefully my questions might be answered along the way.
(For reference, I've never left my home state of California in the US)
Thanks for coming here and insulting the vocal minority, friend, while not actually contributing anything besides "getting things started'. Good job on being an "idea man" in an activities focused board.

Please refer to our QTDDTOT thread and ask there: http://boards.4chan.org/trv/thread/1147953/qtddtot#bottom
Also, read the sticky.
While the board has seen more political bullshit recently. What cancer do you speak?
i got my start by spending a couple weeks visiting a province i always wanted to visit within my own country; it meant the plane ticket would be cheap, and i wouldn't have to worry about different languages, currency, phone shit (roaming, etc.)
it meant i could gradually expand my comfort zone

One of the most important first lessons of travel is to accept people of different cultures, views, mindsets and so on. The world is a varied place and we're in this shit together, most of us in the developed world are floating in it while those elsewhere are 6 feet deep in it. In the end it's the same shit and we should be appreciative that we're so different as that makes the world interesting.
