Never been to Cuba I see? Just because it is a poor third world country doesn't make it cheap like Mexico or the DR. Shoestring budget is not particularly easy and the Cuban government takes great pains to make it difficult for "backpacker" types

Yeah if you're a backpacking hippy that's used to live on a minimum budget, Cuba won't be the cheapest but please don't say it's ''very expensive''.

I was living rough in Cuba and paid double a day than what I paid in Peru where I lived like a king. Maybe it's not Norway tier expensive, but it's still expensive. Then again, my experience outside of Europe and Latin America is limited, and I tend to pick cheap countries.

I didn't, someone else did. But he's not wrong to say so. People usually lump Cuba in with the rest of Latin America, it's among the more expensive Latin American countries to travel through in the region, more on par with Puerto Rico which is a first world country.

There are a number of other countries worldwide that stand out like this, being way more expensive than they sound, and nobody would be wrong to call those expensive either.

Internet:
Resorts will have wifi (some even a uncensored one), else you have a few NAUTA hotspots around the city, you can identify them by a clusterfuck of people sit around them with a smartphone/tablet/laptop 24/7.

There's no mobile internet

Food:
Thanks to the liberalisation of small businesses you can get all kind of food of good quality everywhere outside of La Habana Vieja (paladars)
It's still socialist so expect to get a menu with 30+ dishes and probably 2-10 are actually available but that's cuba.
Try the Pollo Arroz, any kind of fish and the Ropa Vieja (I love it)

Be aware off:
>They use two currencies CUC (the tourist money you can buy stuff with) and the CUP (local money you can mostly use at the smaller snackbars and markets).
There are shops that will only accept CUP just change some with locals). 1 CUC = 25 CUP so some people will try to scam you... get to know the bills and you're fine.
If you get change in CUP use it to buy a few beers at a corner bar no fucks given.
ATM's will only work if you have a credit card that dosen't process the transaction trough a US bank. MasterCard and Amex didn't work, my Visa did.

Try to keep to the privately-owned businesses whenever possible and avoid bringing up politics with the locals, one of two things will happen, they'll speak their mind and go to jail or lie to you, either way you'll never get them to shut up

You can access the internet but considering the speed and difficulty of access I would recommend you plan for an unplugged trip

Havana is great historically, there is plenty to do, and the sights are gorgeous (I recommend El Morro and Paseo del Prado)

I'm Cuban myself, but I haven't been back in 10 years so I'm not sure about recent changes
