Inside Taipei, not much. There's Elephant Mountain, Taipei 101, Freedom Park.
Near Taipei you have Jiufen, Yilan, and Hualien.
Jiufen is the surreal oceanside village Spirited Away was based on. Yilan has the Kavalan Whiskey distillery for a tour. Hualien has Taroko Gorge and nature galore.

Everything I listed is only a couple hrs away via train

National Palace Museum, Lungshan Temple, night markets
Went recently. Longshan and guandu are best temples. Chiang kai shek and sub yat sen memorual halls are cool.
Jiufen is highly overrated. Its just a couple streets full of tourists abd gift shops. Im the opposite of a real traveler but thats literally all it is. The view and being on a hill over a sea and whatever is way overadvertised. Don't go. I'm serious it's pretty shit actually.
Nothing about it will make you think 'spirited away'

>only a couple hours by train
You mean the entire country

Spent a week there last month, Taipei is pretty dull for the most part, Longshan temple is nice, Baoan and temple too, the rest all look the same. The national palace museum is most interesting thing there.
Taipei seems so run down compared to Tokyo though, it's like some parts are literal bargain bin copies, like Ximen is a 3rd rate Shinjuku.

There's a pretty hill called Jilong Shan, (or something), only 500m and you get great views. You'll sweat buckets in the humidity though, oh lawdy that humidity.

Japanese may enjoy anything, i live,in japan and have a jap gf too.
That pic the other guy posted is literally the only things worth taking photos of, and even then each is a best case scenario. Look at them closely, a youtube video or tripadvisor photos. You'll walk through lines of gift shops and leave within an hour or 2 after arriving.
Its not expensive so if you have time, go for it. But dobt go if pressed for time, or at the least be prepared to be underwhelmed
