In a few weeks I'm travelling to China to teach English. I'm excited but at the same time I'm also pretty scared. I'm 21 and this will be the first time I travel anywhere alone, everywhere I've been has either been with family or friends. Any advice from who's done this sort of thing before?

Forgot to say I'll be there for 10 months

I mean you'll probably be looked down upon a lot. White english teachers are basically the Polish plumbers of Asia. That's not to say you'll be ostracized. Especially if you speak Mandarin, which you obviously do. Generally just try to have fun. China is a great country with a lot of cultural history and beautiful scenery. If you get some free time, check the country out.

Thanks, but I don't speak Mandarin

There will be some English signs and a few people who speak English at the airport.
Do you not have some sponsor there that can help you out with the not speaking Chinese part? Somebody that could meet you at the airport?
Once you've settled in, and assuming you don't have major problems, then you don't need to use Chinese that much. I mean, how much do you need to converse in English every time you go to the supermarket near home? Well, that's about as much Chinese you will use when you go to a Chinese supermarket.
