Hey /trv/ it's been awhile since I visited this board.

Anyway, I'm planning a road trip for this summer from Virginia to California, but I want to campout at night rather than sleeping in my car or renting a motel. Are there any websites or do you all know of any good campgrounds that I can campout at? Any tips or warnings?

Oh and I might go to Hawaii any info about camping in Hawaii or any info at all would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Are there any must see campgrounds?

California has quite a few in the central northern areas, keep in mind that the ones inside Parks will usally not have hook ups (they're reserved for the people who volunteer to manage the area)

If you have AAA membership they have fairly nice guides with summaries and stuff.
Definitely stop through the national parks - like the other anon said, most won't have hookups if you're bringing an RV.
Yellowstone is a popular place - if you plan to stay inside the park, reserve a tent / RV site ASAP. They can fill up as soon as 3 months in advance.

One of my favorite campsites was at Antelope Island, in the middle of Utah's Great Salt Lake. Definitely stop there if it's along your route; make sure to catch the sunset.

Google maps can help find campgrounds fairly impromptu, though it may take a little time to find a place. If you're driving with someone who's tech-savvy, they can look up stuff while you're on the move.

If you want camping, there are some awesome resources for that. Most people I know who camp won't shut the fuck up about it. However, if you want "camping", I recommend KOA. you can get an electrical point at your campsite, Wi-Fi, the whole nine yards for $20-$50 a night. Plus a hot shower in the morning, who wouldn't do this?
