I've always been amused by that overlooked detail; so many write Nick as this out of shape guy, when he is able to keep up with Judy without being winded and carry the jumbo pop (though Finnick's strength is probably terrifying).

The thing is that Nick had no training at the time, so obviously he doesn't know how to deal with situations like Judy did. And even Judy wasn't the kickass bunny when she started the academy, she had to learn to use what she had. So I'd imagine Nick would probably be just as capable as Judy in the field, maybe a little bit less reckless and maybe Judy can kick better, but they would be the same physical wise, if not leaning towards Nick.

Storytelling wise, it is good, at least to me. It toes the line of actual police procedure and obviously Judy breaking it when she sees fit, though the story completely acknowledges this rather than presenting it as if it is normal. It is actually a bit refreshing to have Judy interacting with characters other than Nick or her family, so it is nice to see her working with the other ZPD officers. The story has avoided the normal use of Jack Savage as a plot device for Judy to go horny for; instead he is immediately shown as an adversary, and almost a sort of foil, against Judy.

Though I have to admit there are times where the story feels like it is dragging its feet, but the novelty of something other than the usual WildeHopps "Sly Bunny/Dumb Fox" and the mystery keeps me interested.

So I was going to save this for something, but fuck it. I'll just post the concept now.
I had this idea for a Zootopia AU known as the "Savage Apocalypse". Bellwether gets busted, and as a last ditch effort, releases a cloud of Nighthowler-based gass into the air. A squad of Police Officers are caught in the ADT radius, and are imme effected by a new strain of the serum, which pulled a Plague-Inc and evolved to spread through blood to blood contact, much like a zombie virus. The effected officers are fine at first, but it begins to take effect when they least expect it. Soon, it begins to spread through things like unwashed plates/silverware/cups, and then the violence kicks in. Victims of mailings that survive are rapidly infected and turned, and Zootopia begins to break down. It becomes a Dying-Light style quarantine zone, with no transfer in or out. And the virus soon begins to have odd effects on dead bodies....

Just spitballing.
