I missed the last thread's discussion but on the subject of medieval body armor having any fucking hope of stopping a modern smokeless round I just fucking laughed. Everything from a 9mm and up is going to reliably punch through.

Rifle rounds especially. Shields? Haha, nice try. It's almost identical to .223 Remington and regardless of the actual bullet diameter 5.56x45mm is an intermediary cartridge well-known for it's penetration abilities.

It's a small and very fast round, those two virtues alone give it all the stuff it needs to rip through medieval plate like it was butter. Maybe not a through-and-through because it would shatter immediately, but the chance of survival pretty much flatlines when you have tiny flecks of shrapnel turning your squishy insides into confetti.

I have a more of a "fuck THAT' attitude to being a kobold. unless there was some kind of positive 'catch', I would always rather stay human. like, having scales and shit would be cool for a while, but it's more of a novel thing, and isn't unique to kobolds.

ultimately, it's more of a function thing to me. like, dragons and some anthro scalies (IE, Argonians) can do shit that a human cannot do, while still being able to do most/all of the shit a human can do. kobolds, on the other hand, are on the other side of the spectrum: there's not anything that i know of (other than fitting in small spaces, i suppose) that a human cannot do, while humans can do a bunch of shit they can't do.

That's because the way things are measured can be done quite differently, in a rifle you have two major locations to measure diameter: lands and grooves. Measuring from the lands will produce a smaller diameter, while the grooves (being thin channels cut into the barrel) will produce a slightly larger diameter. .21" and .223" isn't a big difference.
