Alright, here's what I would consider the most "accurate" version of her so far, I've actually seen one of the older renditions show up here before.

Basic gist is that she's a dragonborn cursed by a snake diety, basically a witch with snake-themed spells. The curse makes her really tall and gangly, as well as conferring a few cobra traits like fangs and a hood.

As i said, very niche roles. And a big, heavy shield won't matter if your enemy can just run behind you, and neither you nor your comrades can shoot them as they run out in the open to flank you because they also shields and spears.

additionally, shields that are bulletproof while also being light enough to carry are not going to exist outside of a modern setting. The materials they are made of probably didn't exist outside of a laboratory 30 years ago. take the glass on the viewing port for example, it's usually made from aluminum silicates that need to be grown in a lab even today.

if somebody wants to make a bulletproof shield at the tech level seen in GATE, they would be limited to a slab of steel/iron that's would need a team of like half a dozen guys just to move at all, much less charge into battle.

I was under the assumption that because medieval plate armor can technically stop a bullet (you'll still probably die) a shield would as well with lesser effects hence the:

Shields, especially scutums such as those used by the Empire, are mostly made of (hard) wood, or else the soldier wouldn't be able to wield it.
Their defensive properties come from the rounded shape and not the material. The only metal part in a roman scutum is the central boss, but iirc, the Empire's scutums also have metal ornaments.

As to plate stopping bullets, I'd expect that too. However, even a western production could have that sort of bullshit, given that the masses seem to think swords cutting plate is realistic.
