I normally flip the situation to see if it sounds weird. Judy thinks Nick got a case with a coworker and her pregnant, runs to Skye. Skye says that she teases and hit on Nick every time behind Judy's back, and that he never cheated, and Judy is glad to hear that from her friend.

I just can't see Nick as being unmotivated. He went through the trouble of making sure he had the correct documents for his hustles, he was pretty quick on thinking about the traffic cameras, he knows plenty of escape routes- this is a fox that knows his shit. He might fool around a little bit, be snarky, but will still keep his mind on the job if he is truly interested in it.
You can see the difference of Nick being forced to help before the sky tram scene and afterward. He wasted time with the Mystic Springs, with the DMV, even at the limo. After that though, he was nearly all business while still being a smartass because he genuinely wanted to help Judy.

I think the main issue with all of this is that people forget that this is a culture of civilized, modern animals. Things like "mate for life" and "polygamous tendencies" that existed in feral ancestors shouldn't really pass over through that amount of time. Obviously there is still left over traits, like wolves howling, being able to go onto all fours at will, etc, but all but the deepest of behaviors should change with sapience. And mating habits is one of those traits that can easily, drastically change within a few generations, let alone full on intelligent evolution.

Honestly, with civilization, fox and rabbit mating habits should drastically change. With availability of food, shelter, etc all year round rather than relying on spring, Mother Nature would make foxes be able to reproduce all year round, since mating seasons really only exist due to scarcity of resources.
