It depends on a lot of things how much does it take to improve.
I'm one of those who've been drawing since I was a kid, but that drive just can get you so far. I started taking drawing a bit more seriously like four years ago, and I was improving by practicing my fundamentals and such. Then I abandoned drawing for a long while, and I sucked, then goot a bit better, and now I'm stuck again because I have no time to sit and draw, and when I do I'm pretty complacent.
In short: It's fucking complicated, and the only way to see any real improvement is by being constant with your work. If you really want to draw like the best guys (say, JCM), you'll need to make a lot of time dedicated just to this.
Such is art.

First things first, I didn't finish reading, but I don't want this to take too long either, so forgive me ifI miss something or if the problems I point out are "fixed". That said,I think tehre are some issues with your writing that are more pervasive than some mistakes here and there.
The one problem I see in your writing is description. You do a good job at creating the image, like a photograph. You're good at constructing a physical environment. HOWEVER you seem to have trouble increating an emotional/psychological one.Your descriptions are cold, and when you use a more flowery rethoric to explain emotions or thought it tends to not fit the mood of the scene. Physical description is good and sometimes helps to set a mood, but in writing it's not enough; it misses things that other media does (like framing and color theory in film, cartoons or comics).
You resort to dialogue to form this, and that can be a problem when it comes to writing, because reading does not pace the same way as, say, a film. Emotional bits lack weight when the description doesn't last long enough. A moment of tenderness like Lisa's hug should be long, but it doesn't get to linger enough to make a lasting impact.
Which obviously brings me to the subject of tone. The tone is not very cohesive at first because of these issues, and although it manages to set itself, it has a weak foundation.
An example of this is around the beggining: Lincoln seems to take a pretty short time in getting over the realization of being missing for so long; and obviously, given what happens later, he isn't, but since you don't give a clear picture of the characters' psiques (except through dialog), it doesn't seem like it until you make him talk.
This also ties a bit with some pacing issues I see. It's pretty mild, and in part this issue stems from the previous one I pointed out, so I won't delve too much in this.
You have talent and an interesting premise, so don't feel discouraged.

I have to agree with this guy here. I like the story so far, but it really seems like people get over Lincoln coming back after seven years with little issue. It took Lily about ten minutes to accept someone she physically shouldn't be able to remember as her cherished big brother. We don't really get enough of a look on what people are thinking when it comes to Lincoln and his sudden reappearance. I feel like that needs to be expanded on a lot more to make things more emotional.

Adding a bit more now that I read further:
Narration is important, but compression too. There's a bit of a dissonance between how much information you give to the viewer before and after.
At the start you don't give much unless the characters do it and further down the narration gives a bit too much. As a single long continuous work, it doesn't fit very well.
Compression is not only about how much info you give, but how you give it. Remember that old Hemingway six-word tale? The juxtaposition of certain imagery and the choice of words can give a lot of information in little space.
At the start you have a problem, and you kinda fix it with another. The creation of a psychological environment got better at the cost of more exposition-y narration. Not to mention that emotional reactions are still a bit wobbly: nobody gets over big sad things in ten minutes.
Don't worry too much about "fixing" it. In my opinion rewriting is a pointless effort better suited to create more and newer things.
Also some nitpicks, feel free to ignore them since it's not really part of the story's structure but more on formal aspects:

A full blown shower was needed, and all of my towels had to be burned. So happy with my purchase, would recommend to friends and definitely buying again!

Thanks for giving it a read over man. The kind of stuff you pointed out are the more specific subjects that I wanted to refine and focus on. Some of the descriptions felt a bit wonky here and there, but I couldn't really pin down exactly how, so knowing what to look for from what you laid out is a real help.
I think I'll start doing updates in the paste and not post them until I have the scene down beforehand. I always did updates in the thread beforehand for this and most of my other works. It's good for getting quick shit out like greentexts, but for more prose based fics like leapt it feels confining, especially with the character limit. It also made me too self conscious about the time between update posts, my shit taking from half an hour to I think almost two hours, so it might had also made me rush through some scenes when I should had taken more time to read over everything.

I get the reasoning you got behind not going back and rewriting shit. It does sound like a waste of time when you can just create more with that energy instead. My only argument for doing some rewrites after the fact is so it doesn't clash too much with future scenes where I implement some of the points you made. I think that the overall fic would be brought down if the differences between how it was done beforehand and how it was done later was that striking.

It depends on how long you plan to do it. If this ends up a 50-100k words story then the failings at the start won't be very noticeable and just be you getting adjusted. If the fic were to end somewhat soon then maybe a rewrite would be good for an overall better feel.
However, I'd leave it like that anyways for three reasons:
1) As a learning experience: It's important to be able to see what were your mistakes to improve on them, and it's harder to do so when you "erase" them by a rewrite.
2) As proof of your progress: You'll probably cringe at your past work and with good reason, but is good to have proof, just so you can see your own advancements in time.
3) As detachment from your work: One of the worst things any artist can do is to be too attached to his/her own work, and going back many times to fix one thing just feeds into it. It's better to leave a thing be and see it and understand it as part of your process as an artist and not as such an integral part of your ouvre.
