Marty is kinda a sad character, if you look at everything going on in his life

He has a shitty profession that only stays alive due to the generosity of the local populace. Being a librarian probably wasn't his first choice in a career but you can tell he tries to make the most of it. Eventually though the money is gonna dry up and he'll be forced into some piece of shit minimum wage job just to get by. This is clearly not the life he had envisioned for himself

The stuff with Martina is also a bit alarming. There's a lot of ways to interpret his reasoning for it, ranging from a simple fetish to deep psychological issues. Personally I think he feels sexually repressed and that this is his way of liberating himself. He probably feels under intense pressure for some reason and dressing up is a huge relief for him

Under all that though, I can tell that Marty feels trapped in Pack Street. He loves the people and his pack especially but he clearly wanted something more out of his life. It could be why he's so academically inclined - he thought "getting smart" was all it would take for him to escape and settle down in a better neighborhood. He probably hates this unrelenting feeling of helplessness that surrounds him and tries so hard to live with what he has regardless. But he would definitely be crying in his pillow every night if he knew no one could hear him
