She didn’t know what happened. One second they were yapping it up about the gorgeous hunk in the movie they had just seen, and then it wall went dark. Now she holds her best friend’s cold and lifeless body. Tears ran down her face as thunder clapped and rain started pouring down.
She hadn’t even noticed that her body was now covered in brown fur, that her ears had changed, or that she’d grown a tail.
Sitting there in a pool of rain and blood, she didn’t know what to do. She just threw her head back and let out a loud howl that echoed into the night.

Time went on, and Winnie had found refuge at the Grimwood Academy for Ghouls. She’d grown more accustomed to her cursed body, and had become one of the Academy’s best athletes (though her actual grades could use more improvement). Winnie took a deep breath. Her heart sank, but then she felt a slight hint of happiness.
“Winnie.” she sputtered.
“We’re gonna need a blow-dryer, Winnie. You’re starting to smell like wet-dog! Wahhhahhahaha!” The two of them laughed.
The two of them ended up becoming inseparable. The were never seen without the other. But to this day, Winnie was never able to bring herself to tell Phanty the truth about what happened. The memory of what happened continued to keep her up at night, and she could never shake the sinking feeling of the dark secret she carried.
