The dialog is actually pretty good for what it is. They do talk like real people MOST of the time and the gearbox writing doesn't come up much. If they would have tried to use a lot of modern slang it would have been worse.

I just ate some Donut Wolf. The Jelly was Creamy, and the Donuts were soft and warm. The Donut Wolf employees took the chunks of horseflesh and sliced them into pieces, then they rooted around through the bags of trash strewn around the room to find discarded pastry dough.
They quickly tenderized the dough with sledgehammers and fed it into a machine which formed the glaze and frosting around the Donut.
I asked the division manager why he had led me back to this place, and he pointed at the steed's rump, the diseased asshole puckering rythmically with terror, squirting pus with each convulsion. "We're just about to use that section, would you like a crack at it first?"

Just beat this game after buying it on the weekend. Was this never on /v/ cuz furshit, or was I just blind at the time it originally came out? The Bea route is most likely correct and canon. I split between them first time but leaned more heavily with Gregg and did all Bea second time. The fountain scene was especially sweet, the firefly moment was cool too. The shoplifting was a bit cringey but I understood why it happened, Mae being back at the mall with her childhood friend put her in kind of a teenage mindset.

I have to wonder why the deserted mall was probably packed as soon as Mae got on the fountain controls though.

Not trying to start a /pol/ shitstorm, but I got the feeling that the game was trying to paint the "suburban and rural retards" in a more sympathetic light by showing how globalism hasn't worked out for them. Any resources and manufacturing businesses their town had moved elsewhere, likely out of the country, where regulation and wages were much lower.

Whether that process is good or bad, well, it can be pretty grey. Here in British Columbia, we could "buy local!!!" strawberries which require year-round greenhouses and massive amounts of energy to produce, or buy California strawberries where the weather permits for far less energy consumption to produce the same amount of strawberries. Point being that sometimes both the left and right can make an argument for moving jobs elsewhere.

Still, I don't think there's an as obvious a case in Possum Springs. I'm pretty sure glass can be made just about anywhere and coal is still a huge part of America's energy industry. It really sounds to me like they all just got fucked by companies wanting to exploit labour outside the country.
