I'm all over the place on that one, but I've noticed a few trends in what I do and don't like.
I like fantasy stuff all around, regardless of subgenre. It's flexible enough to have more action based or more romantic plots of various levels of intensity.
For anthro stories in the modern day I feel a bit limited. When things get too wild I start to lose a connection to the plot. Some things strike that weird line of "too real to feel fictional yet to fake to feel right". I'll lose empathy for anything that isn't on the low key range, and I'll lose interest in a lot of other things. Really, nice comfy romance is my thing for modern plots (like "Fate Also Smiles") although some of the crazy crap we get on this thread is fine too. I don't really consider the things on the "Pets of Furries" thread to really be modern day, it feels too fantastical.
When it comes to sci-fi I don't like romance. Whenever I see someone try it, there are only two results: A: The sci-fi elements are cool but the writer can't write anything sexual for crap (what happens when I write). B: The romantic element is there, but the sci-fi is garbage/barely existent. If anyone knows a good one for this that doesn't end half way though I'd love to hear what you have.

Because it immediately looks cringey, by merit of instantly calling to mind the fact that it---probably more than other works---specifically is supposed to depict someone having facial hair in real life. Most often the artist/commissioner.

Although granted, it's not as cringey as anthros/fursonas with goatees and shit, it's still awkward.

tl;dr: the less uniquely defining visual characteristics in the human character depicted, the less awkward it is for others to enjoy the art. (Since the character is more generic, it doesn't "grab" the attention as much, and it doesn't make the drawing personal, enabling others to enjoy it more easily.)
