Guardian Blues has to be one of my favorite fics in this fandom. Frankly, that's just medicine in a nutshell. Doctors and nurses have highly specialized training, and the ratio of sick people to doctors is often pretty obscene, especially in poorer places. Frankly, if you AREN'T in immediate medical need, they're not just gonna sit there and hold your hand to make sure you're feeling okay. Moreso, it's actually kind of important to maintain a degree of emotional distance, while still retaining bedside manner. Shit's complicated.
