Just to show how different perspectives come into play here though, I'd say make them bigger instead of smaller. The difference transparencies you used in >>9270413 is a good idea, but in order to not obfuscate so much of the image you could try using a gradient that goes all the way to 100% transparent. That way it still portrays a large volume without being so opaque.

In addition, layering the clouds like this guy mentioned in Min's piece >>9267316 would be an excellent way to give the gas effects more depth. Likewise echoing this guy's points about the motion effects as well.

Finally, again might be personal taste but sound effects can go a long way in adding a tone/impression to a scene, especially when using the font appropriately. For instance something long and drawn out like >>9269592 can be good if you want to focus on the embarrassment, while something big and bold can create a more dominant tone, etc.

Really though all that's a lot more work - right now you're doing a pretty good job with the flat effects and I think the most beneficial thing would be giving them more depth.

I usually do add sound effects but usually it's the same boring 2 sound things like "frrt" or "brrt" because it's like the only way i know how to do it so I just sorta leave it out so people can put their own sound effects to it.

Here's a little experiment I did a few weeks ago. These two guys, physics students, brilliant, but uptight. I filled this hookah with a mixture of weed vapor and my own special gas compound. Look at them, they're so bloaty!
Unfortunately, it also causes brain damage, as the gas molecules travel to the brain and clog up various neurons. Don't worry, they were fine. They won't be building any particle accelerators in the near future, but I don't think they care, what with the permanent, incurable gas they now suffer from, and enjoy every minute of.

Nice work with the more gradual transition from opaqueness. I thought the sound effect was a good touch but obviously from the other comments that's personal taste. Again if you want to continue to refine your effects it seems like the best thing would be to give the gas more depth, possibly with a more layered effect or more individual clouds within the overall effect (like >>9273870 or >>9278765 as examples).
