I think its sometimes easier to make something seem important when you write something as dramatic rather than funny. Or, its harder to make things seem important when you're only funny and not dramatic.
In one greentext there was an entire post worth of what was pretty much a character demeaning the other to the point of tears till they realize they went too far. It wasn't funny but it was hard to take out because it felt like it was doing the job of making the moment have impact.
Took me two weeks to just delete it and then the story was better, I think, but it was a struggle to give the climax weight.

I have just seen guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and it managed precisely that. Drama there is offset by humor, but it doesn't lessen the impact or importance of it. I think it's a good example of that kind of writing.
