It has been confirmed in Zis that Nick & Gwen Skye knew each other as kids, used to date, then she experienced her lesbian awakening, and broke up with him.

They were amicable to the point that Nick asked for her help in assisting in the construction of the Wild Time rides/attractions, and invited her (and her girlfriend) to the grand opening and even gave her a kudos in his toast.

But Gwen Skye used the fact that Nick didn't want to admit his attraction to Judy (which in NW's view means he's pansexual), so she accused him of looking down on what I can only assume is non-heteronormative people such as her, and thus his denying his attraction meant that he was saying that she, Gwen Skye, was abnormal, and thus he "learned nothing in prison".

tl;dr She took whatever issues Nick is feeling about himself and forced them on to her, thus making Nick a LGBTQP hater, and that he's a scumbag.

What NW was trying to do was trying to apply "real world" (i.e. tumblr) gender/sexual politics to a universe with more than a single species.

When she should have treated it more akin to, say, Mass Effect or Star Trek, than the real world.

No one would say that Worf and Troi were pansexual, despite them both being completely different species. Or rather, no one did until the internet allowed people to become professionally offended as a job.

People saw those two as a male of one species and a female of another species having a relationship, one that's heterosexual. And that universe allowed for hybrids, as Troi herself was one.

The only time that Trek tried to make a point of an other gendered paring was when Riker was involved with a being from a "genderless race" (which, like Esteban Universidad, were still represented as "female" like the Crystal Gems, natch), and it was a huge writer fumble.

In any case, Gwen Skye's freakout was due to her seeing Nick trying to deny his "non-normative" relationship as him trying to deny ALL "non-normative" relationships, including who she was as a lesbian.

It involved a lot of tumblr mental gymnastics, and it doesn't make any sense no matter how you try to look at it.

I think NW didn't realize how unlikeable it made Gwen until she posted it. Nick went to jail due to a malfunction murdering someone, he was alright with her (as far as his flashback shown), he suffered a fuckload there as a predator, then when he was offered freedom he was almost killed, then he got involved in a shitload of problems culminating him in freeing everyone while he assumed he was betrayed by someone who he loved and was genuinely hurt and didn't care anymore, to the point of choosing just to stay hidden after freeing a fuckload of predators from the collar and making himself public enemy.

Then she comes, tries to force himself to speak about it (which I assume in NW mind "it" would be his supposed problematic behavior and not his feelings toward a prey that 'betrayed' him) and when he justifiably lashes out she acts like all his suffering should have made him more accepting to HER pleas? Or that is should have made him better at all? It's a level of the character being disconnected with the person and reality that were it written by anyone else I'd assume it would bite Gwen back later.
