A harder/thicker carapace or just smaller spikes would be understandable, those things on it's back are only good for getting itself stuck against a log or vines walking through the jungle.

Animals will be animals, many would try to do something like that in order to get the dibs on food, such as Rathalos. Dinovaldo being an apex predator or not.

The tail is outright stated to be like it is because of ore rubbing against it and fusing to it, and as when it gets angry, these glow red, also implying they're giving off extreme heat, to which would then fuse the ore to it's back as it goes through caves.

Just make them smaller and add earthier colors, it looks better on brute wyverns. On normal scales the color would probably work though.

Three things, as with constructing all creatures on paper
Line of action (I)
Usually follows the spine, shows how the entire body will contort and fit into the scene. Basically makes sure you don't overly contort the creature
Note down body volume
Ovals, circles, triangles, anything quick. What big stuff goes where along the line of action. The key is getting a grip of the entire body BEFORE you go in to do any sort of detail work.
Start with the head. Where does it look to, how big is it, triangle works well for a dragon, maybe two more to put on some horns. Body next. Ribcage, pelvis. Big oval for the ribcage, more rectangular for the pelvis. (II) Shoulder blades and hips, oval or circles. Just roughly note down where those go.
Lines for the front and back legs, where do they start, how do they bend, where's the elbow equivalent, how long are they. (III) Expand by noting down major muscles on both, ovals again. Ovals for the feet, too, just to ground the entire thing. (IV)
And only once you have all the things in place do you start with an actual outline. (V) Expand the tail and neck to actual volume, toe and eye placement, more details, anything you can thing of. This is where you get creative
It'll be hell for the first few attempts, but you'll be a lot better off in the long run

Yeah I honestly can't describe it. I used to love making armor out of cardboard and duct-tape. I haven't done it in a while, but I'd like to see if I can actually forge something that looks a little legit and isn't clunky as hell. Nothing really. Only story I got is a few days before halloween I went to the art department at school and took a bunch of recycled boxes and cut them to pieces and assembled them like armor, using duct tape and hot glue to adhere them. Spray painted it silver and was done just before halloween classes in the morning.
Ended up looking like a complete dipshit, as all my classes were on the third floors of the buildings and the skin and thigh components wouldn't allow for my knees to bend for stairs. Only a few other people were in costumes, which the bought from stores, and they were all the cool dudes. Couldn't see shit as the visor was badly made. Couldn't hear shit as it covered my head. Couldn't say shit because it covered my mouth.
We even had a costume contest and the "Most Detailed Costume" went to a ginger with gelled up hair and a cape who was Syndrome from the increadibles.
Ended up sitting in my room for the next three months until I burned it in the woods (safely) along with all of my other high school things and left for college.
I hate my past.

If you have not yet, I highly recommend disabling the windows update service and only turn it on once a month to give you some sort of control over it back. Patch day is the second tuesday of every month in case you want to know.
Also shut it down properly. If you shut it down via start menu and then turn it back on, you will find that the uptime has not reset. In "control panel >> power options" you find a link on the left side: "choose what the power button does". Click it and you can disable "fast startup" on the bottom part. By turning it off, startup will obviously take a little longer but I had similar issues and disabling this does a proper shutdown

If you want to help grow the local population of anoles, you can do a few things to help them, even without keeping them in captivity.
Anoles love sunning, and large stones are perfect for that. If you can spare some bricks or pavers, set them up in a large block on a flat and stable surface. When the sun is shining it provides a good spot to relax and also a good hiding place as the anoles can hide in the cracks between the blocks. At night, the bricks or pavers will continue to radiate heat which is very good for the anoles.
Leave out cat food, it attracts flies which anoles will happily eat, it will also feed cats if you have any.
Let your grass grow taller, anoles feel safer travelling through taller grass to stay hidden, so they can move about your yard safely.
Also you should let wildflowers grow, they attract bees.
