Whenever I write stuff it's always that way. Most of the time I think of a setting as one big incredibly angry family. Dispositions change at a whim, but generally each species is in it for their own good and couldn't care less what happens to another. That actually might be a decent survival strategy. Mammals tend to be rather protective of their mates/fuck buddies and don't eat the those they have sex with. Be a good way to get the two, or more, species to cooperate with each other. Though, there is the issue of population decline if the species keep fucking the others over their own too much. The culture would have to develop around a polygamy style group so it'd be 2 pairs of m/f with different species for each pair.
