That ship just doesn't make sense to me, nor is it ever done in an interesting way. Most of the time it is usually "FUCK WILDEHOPPS, GO JUDEON" with Nick abloo abloo in the background, with a few rare times where that doesn't happen but we get no explanation of why they are together, just "They are a couple, go with it."

Most of the time her reasoning for falling in love with Gideon is pretty much this;
Gideon might have been a bully to her, but he got better and was able to change his life around. And because he tried and be something more, she feel in love with him. (Because he did what she thought everyone could do)

That's the biggest reasoning. "He became more then what he was, therefor she wants to be with him."
And there is another AU that authors of Judeon lovers love to use. That is; the one where Judy gives up and stays a farmer and falls in love with him, some fucking way.
Nothing screams "LOVE" then Stockholm syndrome, right?

I also remember one Fic/Green (I can't remember) where that was straight out said. I don't know if it was being serious or not though, it might have just been someone taking the piss and fucking around.

But Gideon had asked Judy why she gave up being an officer and everything and wanted to be with him years later or something. And she straight up THANKED him for attacking her and belittling her when she was young. Then went on to say that she needed a "wake up call" and he was the one to give it.

Since she refused to listen to her parents, Gideon was the only one to so violently refuse her dreams and wishes. And she fell in love with him, since he was able to wake her up to wanting to be with him.
It was such a clusterfuck and I think even Gideon was weirded out by her.

I have yet to read a Judeon story that had a solid reason for them to be together, and still come across as romantic. Hell a Judeon story that felt like I was even reading a story with Judy in it, since for one reason or another. All Judy's within Judeon story never really come across as her character actually is, at all.

I remember that fic; Judy even goes that if Gideon didn't wake her up, she would have been in Zootopia catching bad guys instead of being where she belongs, with him. It was very unsettling and borderline creepy, this was not Judy at all in any way. She fell in love with someone who emotionally scarred her enough that she gave up on her dream, that is fucked up.

As for the whole "Gideon got better, so Judy wants to be with him" thing, I could see him turning his life around as a 'possible' start to have interest in him, if at least only for friendship. But not enough to start a relationship, let alone hold one. Still, the fact that his actions traumatized her to the point that over a decade later Judy still is affected by them seems like they would still color her views on him. Gideon also doesn't seem like a good fit for Judy, having become a bit shy and withdrawn, though this is also a little bit unfair since we don't see too much of adult Gideon.

I didn't interpret it that way. I was trying to say that neither require much of a risk. They're just a thing you do.

If there was a risk involved other than 'not doing it right' (which can kind of be subjective in and of itself) then absolutely, but I wouldn't say there even is one. Or at least not doing one over the other.

Even with all this said, I think more pred/pred and prey/prey relationships would be interesting too. It can still be interspecies and not done to supposedly meet some sort of agenda/quota, though I doubt that's what people who do that sort of thing are thinking of first and foremost.

For me it's like 'I want this character to be a _____, and this one to be a ______'. Or I start with an animal first and build the character after, like with the linsang and even the initial shorties.

I derailed, I'm sorry. What I'm trying to say is I didn't get what you meant at first, but even now that I do I can't say I agree with the analogy because I don't see a risk to begin with.
