Except he's not even that.

Confident is too broad a term for one. He's not really self confident so much as he is somewhat brave. It doesn't seem like that much of a difference but it's a very big one in terms of characterization.

Throughout the series he's shown a propensity for not believing in himself but being fully willing to throw himself head first into shit with the plans he makes up to deal with what he sees as the issue in question. The idea to forge his way into Beacon, acting like his dad advised him to instead of being himself, it goes on and on.

And his pride? It's actually something he got rid of pretty quickly. He's frankly one of the most open characters in the series and aside from being a bit embarrassed when Ruby shat on his sweater he doesn't seem to give a fuck about his own personal pride.

And he's not really all that stupid. At the beginning sure, but since then he's been surprisingly insightful at least emotion wise.

team RWBY is reuniting, it will probably take a few episodes to get there but the fact that this will all be in the same general area will be helpful in keeping things coherent, and when RWBY finally does reunite it'll at least smooth things over a little bit

And we're more secure into a single location, so exploration of the area will be decently better.

My only issue is how overloaded with plots we are with at the moment, along with characters, shit is going to be bumpy

I do not think him being a fascist is a very universal headcanon. That sounds to me like something that would only come out of the loonier part of Tumblr.

Having said that, he does show somewhat authoritarian tendencies throughout the show, in that he prefers to make big and bold decisions on his own. Usually involving military force and coalescing power around himself. Though, and I think this is a good move by Miles and Kerry, the show makes it pretty clear that he's not doing it out of some political ideology, but because he genuinely thinks that moves like that will protect people.
