I saw your read-through of my comic yesterday and I wanted to thank you! I was away so I couldn’t give you an immediate reply but thanks for the review, and I would like to share my thoughts on some of the critiques you had.


>Expanding the use of the format

While I did want to do more with the format, I didn’t have a good enough reason to do so. The part with Charlie was there because I need to use her in the story. The other pack members weren’t essential to the plot and therefore didn’t need to show up.

Going beyond the floor where the story was set would probably cause a lot of confusion and, again, there was no need to move the perspective to the other floors since it was not essential to the plot nor did I think of any way to enhance the narrative by going to the other floors.

If I do end up doing something similar in the future, I would probably look into expanding the setting to more than just a single floor or room.

I see your point that the big bulky words does detract from the logic of the comic. But one thing I did notice is that you read the comic in parts. I, however, designed it as one big strip with no breaks in between each part and therefore needed some way to denote a cut/scene change. Without those ‘time of day’ panels there would be strange jump-cuts between each part if you read them in a continuous fashion. Maybe I could’ve used something else, another way of symbolizing the passage of time. How about a time stamp, similar to the digital clock in the last strip? Or maybe a “•••” in place of actual words? But I agree that if the comic was read in the six parts I cut it in, the ‘time panels’ would not be needed.

I had a pretty big internal debate about this. The major reason for the switch in perspective is that I needed the note at the end to be big enough to be readable at a glance. I had plans and sketches that stuck with the original format but keeping to the established layout would make the note super small, and not being able to read it clearly would defeat the point of the ending or make it less impactful. Though after thinking about it, I could’ve added ‘zoomed-in-panels’ for both the clock in the first part and the note in the last to make them big enough to be legible without the having the reader stare at it too hard.

As for your idea of going the opposite direction and just breaking all established rules set by the comic, I have to admit that I have no idea on how to execute that properly.

Anyways, thanks for the review. I got a lot out of it. I’m seriously considering redoing that last part, just as a bonus to see if people like it more if it stuck to the format instead of switching perspectives.
Oh, and thanks for that recommendation on Chris Ware. His comics are definitely interesting based on the strips I found on Google.

It really depends on what you're using. The stuff I use just makes me feel really heavy and comfortable and makes the music I'm listening to sound like I'm in a concert hall. Happens, man. My own father is constantly trying to get my to drink with the family, but it just ain't my thing.

Partly because alcoholism runs in the family, but mostly because I can't stand the taste of it, even in small doses.

Only alcoholic drink I ever tried tasted more like soda, and had less alcohol in it than cough syrup.

Point is no reason to shit on people for doing what they enjoy. Cigarette smoke drives me insane, but I don't hate people for smoking. No reason to really.

Also know people who do drugs too.

I'm with you, anon. If there's alcohol, soda, and juice at a party, I would ignore the alcohol. And I never saw the appeal of smoking other than the smoke-tricks that they like to do look pretty.

I think these vices are just associated with being social / social events, so not participating in them makes you appear like a shut-in.

In a way, it's the same reason people find bronies/furries/any group despicable. It gets to the point that they're so used to criticism from people outside their interest group that they react overly aggressive and defensive to anyone that even hints at not being a part of said group.

I see what you mean about not needing any other characters: its a story about Anneke and Wolter, not the entire Pack.

I think replacing the panels with words with completely dark panels can signify a scene break. They function to show the passage of time, and things like Anneke sleeping or Wolter coming back home with the same bag can signify the amount of time without being specific. How do you think that would that look?

I'd love to see any alternative endings to the strip that you want to experiment with! Again, your piece was amazing, and an incredibly creative use of the medium! I can't wait to see your other projects!

I was willing to give Inter-Schminter a break for the longest while, because of Nick & Judy. When Max was a plot device warning about how bad a pred-prey relationship could end up.

I didn't give up on it until Max became a Greek God and literally everything revolved around him (Jill's prejudice and possible reason for Judy getting fucked up, police conspiracy about his fox girlfriend, him being a literal sparkledog hybrid, etc).

With Zistopia, it rubbed me the wrong way how, after NW decided to put work into things, that she didn't have a real start to the AU. Nor did she have much direction for it other than how the Protopia script went (Honey's bunker, Manchas, Bunnyburrow).

Cute moments could only go so far, and it became really apparent that it was literally filler since that's when hiatus 1 started.

Then NW decided she could make the story BETTER than Disney did.

Then you got John Wilde being sent to away presumably to death, you got Swinton replaced with a shadow cabal that doesn't make sense, the bunny majority minority, tumblr politics, Nick being called a jerk because he made Gwen Skye feel less special as a lesbian, and so on.

You have NW waste precious time making fanart of fucking Garbage Baby, a fic that died after two fucking chapters, and her being combative to people who challenge her beautiful story and the not-so-subtle hints that she legit thinks that Zis is better than the final movie we got.

I hate how both ended up, but Zistopia was the one that pissed all over its fans the most.
