Our lives have been completely transformed by technological innovations and scientific discoveries: where once we were savage mongrels living in caves staring at smoldering fire pits, we are now civilized beings in modern homes with computer screens! And since we're discovering new things faster every day, its fun to think about how science could revolutionize our lives again! How could we colonize the moon? What if we could travel through time? How fun would it be to immerse yourself in a virtual world indistinguishable from real life? Sometimes its just fun to fantasize about these question! What if we had ray guns, teleportation, or if there were a planet out there with sentient sneks?

What separates science fiction from science fantasy is the rationality behind the 'why'! Its not just coming up with fantastic ideas like sentient robots, worm holes and the ability to cross over to other dimensions, but the effects that these things might have! This can lead to heavy questions! What happens when you allow people to genetically alter themselves into super beings? Can a government be trusted with mind reading devices? What if those sneks invade us for our precious, precious zinc?! We all know the Reptilons love zinc, and their planet has so little of it!!!

But don't worry: if any aliens come, send them my way and say "Oh, I thought you said 'take me to you READER!'" Badum-tsssss.

My favourite Zootopian sci-fi is the one in the semi-distant future where the illegal practice of replicating mammals into "plushies" has practically doubled the population, and it's the job of Reynard Cain to find and eliminate them. At first it was easy to spot them when they were just "Chinese knock-offs", but now they've gotten so precise that it's practically impossible. Even Reynard might be one, you don't know.

Fur Wars (Star Furs?). I know it's more like a space opera than a traditional sci-fi, but I still love it. Growing up, I didn't mind that there was only one pred in the galaxy, but I secretly dreamt of a more diverse cast. Seeing the new movies now pleases the kid in me, but just like the classics, they didn't need to be so inclusive to be good in my eyes. It's just an irrelevant bonus.

My new zoosona is going well. He's an otter that loves water even more then most otters do, spending most of his free time in it. He lives in the Canal district, and works in Mystic Springs (Look, he heard they had pools and waterfalls he could use on-shift, okay? He didn't find out the rest until after...), and is usually found on beaches or at public pools.

When he's not out socializing, though, he takes things a little deeper, taking a scuba tank and finding the bottom of a lake or somewhere equally deep to relax, reading on a waterproof tablet.

Still needs a name, though, and a few other things. I'm working on it!

Well, Nick's back legs do lose some length since foxes normally stand on their toes, and Zootopian mammals stand on the flat of their foot.

The knot doesn't inflate until it is the female though (assuming evolution didn't change that mechanic). My old neighbor (old as in I moved, not the age of the neighbor) had a fox. They don't really smell that much, no worse than a dog, especially when groomed which has to be often. So I'd imagine of Nick showered daily he'd be fine.

This is kind of why I'm so annoyed these days by people always trying to push some alternate love interest for Judy for quick drama. It seems like everyone does it when nobody's even really touched on all the things that could cause strife inside the relationship. Let's look at biological incompatibility, for funsies. Done to death? Yes, you'd think so, but it's always Judy going "a bloo bloo I suddenly want children for some reason because I'm a bunny and Nick can't knock me up."

Let's take some of those assumptions and apply a little logic, though. Using Judy's family as a template, let's say bunnies usually have big families. That's probably a big deal to them, so family is probably important, especially given how Judy's parents kind of dote on her. If rabbits rarely try to be much more than farmers or whatever they do in their own communities, that would mean that there probably aren't that many career-driven females around. So, they probably tend to, on average, work whatever trade their family has chosen to ply and rear children, so I don't think it's far-fetched to say that there might even be some societal pressure and expectation for rabbit women to hunker down and bear their husband's children. Add to this that Judy's family is huge, while Nick's family is, as far as we know, just him and his mom, and that Mrs. Wilde is waiting on grandchildren, and you've got this perfect storm waiting to happen of Judy feeling totally inadequate or like she's not doing enough for Nick but maybe doesn't even consciously understand why that is.

So you've got this overt pressure on Judy to be a mother that she thinks she's past, but also this subtle pressure that she's not aware of where not being a mother means you're less of a rabbit, and Nick having such a small family hurts her a little; family is so important to rabbits and she wants Nick to have the love that entails but she can't help him make it bigger like she's supposed to.

This seems somewhat in character for Judy; she doesn't seem to care all that much about the traditions in Bunnyburrow, at least concerning what bunnies are suppose to do generally. However, being surrounded by a big family would definitely influence her, even subconsciously. She might see herself happy in her position, she has a great job, good friends, a best friend/partner/perhaps significant other in Nick, but what about Nick?

Judy isn't inherently selfish; she goes after what she wants with gusto, sure, but she never wants to purposely hurt anyone to get it. She might not care about having a big family herself, but she would want Nick to be happy, and in her mind that could, subconsciously, come to the conclusion that he should have a bigger family, something she can't easily give him.

I don't think that children would actually be a huge issue for Nick and Judy, but if it was, that's probably more or less how I'd handle it. If Judy understands the problem it usually isn't a problem; what causes her problems is when she misunderstands a situation or a person. If she'd known she was prejudiced the movie wouldn't have gone the way it did, but she thought she was above it when she wasn't. Nick faces the overt pressure of society, while Judy deals with its subtle pressures (for the most part.)

Hi, /ztg/! Falke here. It's not yet Friday in my time zone, so this counts.

I have some space cops AU for you. Not as much as I'd like, because it's not my top priority right now, but I hope this whets the appetite for when I post the next part this weekend, and then the rest of it in six months or whatever when I get around to finishing the whole thing. (this is like the first half of chapter one)

Lots of this is subject to change, characters aren't quite nailed, etc. But maybe it'll be fun in the meantime.

It was the second-biggest station at Jupiter, after the habitats at Europa, but it was mostly science traffic from the insystem side and mining and shipping on the outsystem side. Civil Enforcement had a modest presence to keep an eye on things - a tiny post on the station itself, and a couple wings of pilots.
