The issue isn't necessarily that humans in "x" is a bad story. Hell, Burroughs showed that it can be done very interestingly with his "Human on Mars" stories of John Carter. And I know that the Mars stuff was his own creation.

If what we've seen from Japan for a while is any indication, the idea of "normal people placed in Another World" stories are still very popular.

The reason that these tropes get shit is that it's a lazy excuse for self-insert shenanigans that, even if written even at least half decently, are less about the property that the writer is inserting into, and more on the writer's avatar.

The sad fact is that humans in Zootopia, and indeed self insert stores in general, are usually used in a limited number of ways.

1. They are humans that wind up as a native, then influence the setting and characters around them to become the most "important"

2. Human winds up like an E.T., and eventually fucks their crush, usually the main character(s)

3. It's yet another "Humans, FUCK YA!" story where humanity dominates the natives.

4. It's yet another "FUCK HUMANS, WE SUCK" story which is misanthropic garbage where the author wishes they were born in "X".

5. The story is part of a massive crossover with other properties, not realizing that Kingdom Hearts at least somewhat works because of restraint

6. the self insert corrects any issues they have with the source material that they don't like. I know of MLP writers who started ignoring the show canon after season one for their fics.

But I would absolutely warn you against a 'word requirement' max cap. A story that's got too many words dedicated to just padding can lose the reader in the lush green verbage.

I would suggest writing the fic in as few words as possible, and then seeing what can be expanded for function and flavor-- what conversations can go over ideas with more beats, what jokes can be added to lighten mood before tension is increased, what tension can be added to give more relief to jokes-- and if you have time to spare, you can use the rest of the words you didn't use to write another story!

In the last thread people talkes about Humans in Zootopia Fanfiction.

I once had two Ideas about it and might I hear your opinion about it.

The first Story would be about that a "Human" would be discovered after she drowned nearly in a like.
She suffers from Amnesia, can't remember anything etc.
That might now sound like a generic Human in another World story
But, the twist would be that She isn't Human
Infact she is just a more or less well built Robot/Android built by an Society that believed in some old Legends and Fairytails about Humans and so they built her how they inmagines humans.

The second Idea would've been one about that after WWII a group of Humans sick of Earth and the Cold War decide to leave due of an Dimensional Portal.
Unfortunatly each one of them is send to another time period to the World where Zootopia exists. Some wake up where Zootopia already existed, some where it wasn't even a thought.
Each of them try in a different way to go trough their live now, but mostly in the name of diplomacy (Because lts be real, it would be the most stupiest thing you could do and attack animals that are in the majority)
Also this story would probably be written in the View of the Animals.

I also had the Idea for an Story, that's about politics.

It would be that after the Nighthowler Case noone really believed in the old Party or Paties anymore and so the Elections got sheduled earlier.
Most of the old Paties disbanddt and new ones became popular.

The story itself would go arround an Ice Bear Protagonist from an Green Party that tries to get voters in an Outside Industrial Area but there is also agriculture in that zone so it's pretty much dividet between Socialists and an Agriculture Conservative Party.
