Assuming you're averse to using the Quests Neoboards to ask people to (Super) Shop Wizard the item for you, thankfully, there is another way.

NeoCodex's Item Database not only lists item prices, rarity, & other data, but they also provide links to user shops that are selling the item!

Unfortunately, the downsides to them -aside from possibly being unapproved, so I'd be careful mentioning them on the Neopets website- is that they only list 1 Shop Wizard "section".

Yes, they list multiple shops, & they do change their listings, but when you search with the regular Shop Wizard, he lists the cheapest shops selling that item, but only shops who's owners' names begin with a specific character.

IIRC, these "first character groupings" are pre-decided. Like _, k & x. Or e, r, & 4.

Hence, NeoCodex user shop links, while readily available, & more regularly & changed aren't necessarily the cheapest, since they only give you 1 Shop Wizard section listing's shops, which could have total rip-off prices.

The price the site suggests for the items & the shop prices may not always match-up, & I've found NC's price listings to often be noticeably higher than say, JN's.

Just a bit of warning, if you'll pardon all my rambling back there.

Some sections of the Wiz are regularly cheaper than others as well. The f&s section seems to have the cheapest prices (or close to it) much more often than would be expected if it were distributed uniformly.

Frankly, I liked that although the Gold was for always beating Chadley, the more favorable prizes were almost always for beating him instead of Abigail, so that you didn't have to sacrifice getting a prize you want to get the grand prize.

Get the site on mobile already. It doesn't even seem like it would be that difficult to get some of the most popular site features and games mobile-compatible.

And if we're talking about fixing the economy, there need to be some actual, substantial NP sinks that are worth doing. Wheel of Extortion is only good until you get the avatar, Hidden Tower doesn't get visited often enough to have much effect, and all the other NP sinks are so paltry they make basically zero difference to inflation.

Things like:

Paying NP instead of codestones for instant-finish or reduced-time training courses. The NP price would have to be calibrated so that it's always somewhat more than the price of the codestones it would take.

A hybrid of the Abandoned Attic and Charity Corner, where you get an item for donating NP, and a larger donation has better chances of getting a high-rarity item. As a daily rather than a one-off event, so we can steadily siphon NP off of the economy.

I've been pretty lazy & negligent in tallying up the results so far, but this round, it seems like The Seekers have the majority of people joining, as such, I highly recommend joining them.
They also have a nice boon in the form of Bank Bribery.

Also supporting them is that they're due for a win, having not won since January 16th, 2017.
The Thieves & Order, meanwhile, are much less due for a win, having last won on February 13th, 2017, and March 13th, 2017, respectively.

Assuming you have a spare Neopet, you can just give them an expendable petpet. For example, I have HUNDREDS of Maraquan Grackle Bugs because I win them fighting in the Dome of the Deep every day.
Odds are, really, if you do your Battledome Dailies, you can have a steady supply of expendable petpets.

And while I will admit, Turmy's prizes can be things like 350 NP to Books worth only 1,000 NP or so, one other incentive is training; As it's possible to get another point of Strength from him, I consider it an invaluable opportunity to save on training costs.
Would you rather visit Turmaculus, or spend a few thousand on another Strength Training Course's cost?

Actually, Turmaculus has a fairly consistent schedule, if you know he works.

And luckily, the author of this petpage does know, and in fact, tracks Turmaculus regularly!

For the most part though, aside from during the very end of the month, Turmaculus is usually awake 5 hours past the hour Turmaculus was awake the previous day, with whether he'll be awake during AM or PM being randomized.
Sometimes it's 4 or 6 hours past, also, but this is uncommon & temporary.

For example, yesterday, Turmaculus was awake at 6 AM, NST.
6 AM on a clock plus 5 hours is 11, so Turmaculus will be awake at a random time of either 11 AM, or 11 PM, NST.

If he had been awake at a time like 9 PM, NST or such, next day would be 2 AM or 2 PM, because 5 hours from 9 O'Clock is 2 O'Clock.


The petpage goes into more detail, but point is, Turmaculus actually has a somewhat predictable schedule.
And if you're not sure, you can always just check that page daily.


Oh, and Turmaculus is awake! I actually got a Strength boost from him, too! Yay!!

Oh, & regarding Kitchen Quest, yeah, if you're serious about KQ Training, it may be worth it to transfer your non-battle pets to your side.
At least, until your Battle Pet reaches a level where any more levels would increase training costs & you have to train up your other stats until they're maxed out for that training cost; At that time, it may not be worth it to risk the RNG involved with gaining a level from Kitchen Quest.


Oh also, another thing involving how many pets you have & random levels is that some Scratchcards give levels to a random pet on your account. So you may also wanna consider that.

I actually have a little over 200 Terror Trove Scratchcards in my SDB. If you reveal your username, I could sell you some. Like 40 or 50.

But whichever way, Ice Caves Scratchcards tend to be best, at least for gaining levels, because Terror Trove Scratchcards (2nd most common.) are the cheapest level-offering SC.

They have more Scratchcards that have more types of NP-rewarding spaces. Ex:

>All IC Scratchcards have 6 different types of spaces.
>No DF Scratchcards ever have more than 2 types of spaces where you're rewarded directly with NP if you match 3 of that space.

Whereas the least & most rare IC Scratchcards have 3 types of NP-rewarding spaces, & all other ICS have at least 2 types of NP-rewarding spaces.

IC are also cheaper at the Kiosk than DF.
So even if you buy directly from Kiosks, the Scratchcards there still tend to have better odds & prices, & it's easier to get ICS that offer levels than DFS.

Main reason DFS sell for so much more in user shops, I assume is better item prizes & jackpot, AFAIK. Possibly fueled by them costing more at the Kiosk.

If you can get training cookies from the NC store then go for it I guess, cut down on some time. Otherwise you're looking at dailies like Kitchen Quest or Turmaculus. Scratchcards can give levels as mentioned above and I'm fairly certain the Wheel of Excitement can do so as well, not sure if the other wheels can.

There's also the lab ray but that thing usually gives stat points but lowers your level so lab-trained pets usually end up with middling stats, high HP and low level. Makes them difficult to train normally later on.

I think stat boosting is only viable for the ultra-rich. You might have some luck if they decide to release a stat boosting item as an Altador Cup prize this year though? That might drop the cost temporarily.

As mentioned, Cupcakes, Training School, Kitchen Quest, Turmaculus, & Fortune Cookies are fastest.
With Cookies, I recommend Training ones, if you can afford them.
Training FCs last less time, & usually cost 25 more NC, but they give you more control of your stat gains, & have better optimal stat gains than Faerie Quest Fortune Cookies.
Most stats you could gain from 1 FQFC is 108, if you were somehow lucky & good enough to get & complete 9 Faerie Queen Quests.

Training FCs should be saved for an EXACTLY level 250 pet. But they can still be better.
Supposing a level 250 pet, & 5 days of TFCs, that's 120 hours where your training time can be reduced by 30 to 75%, with the possible numbers between 30 & 75 going up in 5% increments.

Anyway, a level 250 pet can train at both MITS & SNTS at once at the following rates:

>MITS=24 hours per course
>SNTS=4 hours per course

Worst results with a Training Fortune Cookie is 30% reduction every time. So:
>MITS=16 hours, 48 minutes per course
>SNTS=2 hours, 48 minutes per course


Starting with 7,200 minutes of TFC time, & 70% of a Level 250 MITS course is 1008 minutes.... This means you can fit in, optimally, 7 MITS courses (7x1008=7056) plus 1 more if you're prudent.
And at SNTS, you can get 42 courses in in the same amount of time, plus another if you're prudent.

49 stat points with a Training Fortune Cookie, as long as you complete & pay for as many & all your courses as quickly as possible. And that's worst case scenario!

Now compare that to Faerie Quest Fortune Cookie's optimal yield of 108 stat points, & you don't get even to pick which stat points!

Also, if you're wondering, optimal training with TFC is something like:

MITS=6 hours per course
SNTS=1 hour per course

Although both of those divided into 120 hours perfectly, we'll assume 1 less course, because we're assuming that you have to take time getting codestones, navigating pages, etc.
Maybe it's possible to get perfect training time, though. MAYBE.

So that's:
>19 (MAYBE 20) MITS courses.
>119 (Maybe 20) SNTS courses.

For an optimal yield of 138 stat points, maybe as high as 140.
Yes the average of the best & worst TFC yields is less than 108, but the top 3 Faerie Quest Rewards, for stats, are:

> #1. 2 level, 5 HP, 5 Strength (12 total)
> #2. 3 HP, 3 STR, 3 DEF (9 total)
> #3. 5 levels

The Soup Faerie can also give you up to 2 in 2 random stats.
But as some Faerie Quests are rarer than others, & you have little to no control over what stats you get, & it may not always be good to increase level, as it could spike up your training costs before you're ready, & involves lots of RNG to get your level back down.

So yeah. FQFC are less NC to buy, less intense, can sometimes get refreshed, can get you Fountain Faerie Rewards....

But compared to actual TFC, their stat yields are shit, largely because of RNG.

Oh, & a level 20 or lower pet has a better optimal yield. 75% every time would mean 30 minute courses.

You could train 19 levels (From level 1), get 40 in STR & DEF, & since MITS lets you train HP to 3 times your level, to 60 & train to 40 AGI, if you wanted, before training costs would go up.

So a below level 20 pet with like, 1 in every stat, could gain nearly 200 stat points & still have time for.... Probably 10 or 20 more!


Sorry about all the training nerdery. But yeah, I hope you can see why this makes TFC better than FQFC for training, at least in theory.

Freezing potion is 100%, one use per battle. I forgot how much I bought mine for but checking the TP people are asking for between 4 and 5 million for it. There's a couple of other 100% freezers like some helmet that I forget the name of and I think they all run the same price. The main advantange of the freezing potion over other 100% freezers is that it also does a couple icons worth of water damage. Not much of an advantage but every little bit helps.

The easiest way of farming if you're just interested in quick rewards is using a Cursed Elixir on the S750 Kreludan Defender Robot since the elixir does 20 points of lifesteal damage, oneshotting him and healing off any damage he'll do to your pet on his turn.
I wouldn't call it GOOD money, but it is FREE money and a nice little earner if you get some of the rarer codestones.

If you're interested in training your pet in the longer term, you'll want to use the pirate training school (level 40 and under only, pay with doubloons) or the mystery island training school (pay with codestones which can be awarded from the battledome and a couple other dailies like the tombola, and found randomly).

There's also the cupcake method which is done by adopting a pet whose birthday is today, receiving their birthday stat-boosting cupcake from their pet page, and then dropping them back in the pound. Rinse and repeat once per day for quick and easy stat points. I believe there's a thread on the clraik.com forums where people find and share names of pets in the adoption pound who's birthdays are up.

It's hard NOT for the Battledome to be good money. The S750 Kreludan Defender Robot is not the ONLY challenger with 20 HP or less (& can thus be one-shot by the 20 HP of unblockable Life Drain DMG the Cursed Elixir does.) but he has a good prize pool, & is an arena with a good prize pool.

That is, his, and the arena's pool are one of the more shallow pools.

The Neocola Centre, The Dome of the Deep, & The Ugga Dome all have fewer items in their own prize pools. Some come close, but these 3 have the fewest.

This is good because no matter where you fight in the Battledome, Weak Bottled Fairies, Yellow Codestones, & Red Codestones are always possible prizes.

While Weak Bottled Fairies are low value (Old ones are worth more, but useless.) & useful en masse, Codestones are good money.
The cheapest Yellow Codestone is usually around 2,000 NP.
The cheapest Red Codestone is usually around 5,000 NP.
The priciest Yellow Codestone is usually around 15,000 NP.
And the priciest Red Codestone is usually around 35,000 NP.


Considering on most days you can get at least a few Codestones, plus being able to earn 1,500 NP a day through Battling NP Prizes....

It's usually pretty good money to do the Battledome.


If your account is old enough, do Food Club.

Once you have a few hundred thousand NP, you may also want to look into stocks.

Also IIRC, if text like "xt" isn't in the url after you wish, it means you're out of wishes for that 12 hour period. Or you didn't pay the Well enough & your wish was invalid. Unsure what it indicates, really.

Still, 294 NP a day for 14 chances a day to win a 300K item seems like a good deal to me, even if lots of other people use it; The page itself lists who won recently, when, & what. If you're wondering, the well grants 10 wishes across the whole site per day, even though every user can make 7 every 12 hours.

The Wishing Well's also a good way to get a good Battledome weapon like a Turned Tooth.

Overall, it's pretty low risk (294 NP a "day" means you could lose nearly 1,000 times & as long as you still got a 300K item to sell, you still wouldn't be at a loss, NP wise.) & pretty high reward, I think.

But you don't have to if you don't trust your luck, or don't wanna add more competition for other wishers.

Stocks, I understand avoiding, but I don't think it's TOO risky. Just buy 1,000 a day from one Ticker at the lowest share price (15, maybe 16), then sell when it gets to a price you're comfortable with. 30, 45, maybe 60 or more.
As long as you have start-up funds & patience, you can usually profit from stocks, IMHO.

Well, they don't HAVE to post their username.

The person who would get the referral can just post their e-mail or some other means of privately contacting them.
Then the person who would get the 500 NP sends them a referral e-mail through this: http://www.neopets.com/refer/index.phtml

Not that hard, & not everyone's gonna do horrible things with a username.

Plus, as you do more referrals, you can get more NP, & then higher value items, like Retired Bottled Faeries when you refer.

This is a fair point, but I think even with the right art style you wouldn't actually be able to capture a large enough user base for it to matter.

My favourite part of Neopets is the economy aspect of it, which you can't really get with a smaller community. And you also can't really get anywhere else. I feel like lots of other people feel the same way so you get sort of an issue where people would possibly move to a better alternative if it had the userbase, but nobody wants to move to it because it doesn't already have it.

As an aside, I feel like Neopets' art direction has really gone downhill. All the new stuff seems so plastic and lifeless now, and all the pet designs went to shit with the customization update.

The quadruped pets look alright for the most part, if a bit static. The most feasible way to give pets unique stances back and still allow customisation would be using 3d models for everything but that ship has long since sailed and sunk since they never expanded on Keyquest and the general lack of income for the site

I can't see a reason why a virtual pet site cant survive in today's market though. Cute animals have universal appeal and over the past decade there's been a high level of support for casually played games that only require 15-20 minutes of attention from a player per day. I still feel Neopets could come back if it came under management who actually wanted to revive it. Unfortunately Viacom let it stagnate after a certain point and Jumpstart have been haphazard at best.

Honestly can't blame jumpstart too much. They inherited what I'm sure if an absolutely awful code base held together with feces and bubblegum, on shitty servers with a team nowhere near big enough to actually do the massive amount of work that would be required to fix the broken shit let alone make anything better.

That's not to say it couldn't be done, but honestly you'd either need a huge investment of capital (which would realistically end in the entire game being turned to shit to try to gain wider appeal), or to somehow turn over development to the fan community or something (but even that would be pretty unlikely to be successful unless they actually managed to get a bunch of competent people on board).

Given the circumstances jumpstart honestly isn't doing that bad.
