I believe it can be done well, just not as hamfistedly as Marvel usually does.

Kamela Kahn was a good example of this. She was a minority and Muslim character who story heavily explored her cultural issues. She even took up an existing (albeit abandoned) identity, and she was praised as being well-written and likeable.

Now, I suspect I'll catch some flak for this... But I actually trust Miles and Kerry to handle doing an LGBT character better than, say, a typical Marvel attempt at diversity. I can't see Miles and Kerry doing anything along the lines of <unsolicited opinions on Israel> or that god-awful Hellcat reboot where she was a straw feminist. Granted, maybe M&K's effort won't be perfect, but I think it'll be passable.
