Wow. I'm really impressed with this, it's published book quality, I think.
The beginning hit fairly close to home for me, I feel like I've been in Fuku's situation quite a bit recently. It was kind of heavy, but the fun little details like showering with gas helped balance it out.
The second half does seem a little unfinished like you said, I hope we didn't rush you! I like Undyne in this sort of role, as someone who is sort of an uplifting presence for other people.
All in all, I really liked it.

I'm gonna be honest here, adding new characters out of the blue like Fukus sister is a little jarring. I can kind of see why though since the story needed some kind of catalyst and you did make her an interesting character, if a little morbid. I do like them both in your style. Sometimes I do feel like they're a bit too... "human" in a way. It's easy to forget they're supposed to be monsters that lived underground for a long time.

While it's really cute slice of life stuff, it does clash a bit with your previous "can't touch things without burning them" thing what with all the ordinary sounding house objects and clothing they're wearing like sweatpants on Blaise for example. I guess you did it to make the story more simple but I would've loved to see you try to invent your way around everything in a fire friendly way. You did kind of play with it in the mall thing but it just leaves me wondering what their house and clothes are made out of.

OUCH! Haha, didn't expect that twist in the middle there. Especially since it's after the showers thing. Your dislike for Alphys is shining a bit through Undyne there with her cheating. Not that I care all that much, it's just a little harsh in my opinion.

All in all it was very adorable and you made me care for another new character you bastard. I don't know if just any writer could've made me care about Blaise like that.

You guys didn't really rush me, I just literally don't have the time to stretch this out to the 10k+ words it'd need to be fully fleshed out, so I compromised with all those scenes in the mall rather than constructing a continuous narrative. As for the whole fire-retardant materials thing, there's only so much of that you can do before it starts bogging the story down. The best way to handle it is to have a few details be radically different to remind the reader that these people are literally on fire, like the showers being gas showers, and then having it just be assumed that all their clothes are fire-retardant or whatever. God knows I've used the phrase 'asbestos-lined panties' enough for people to get the gist of things, I think, and I don't want to keep repeating myself more than necessary.

I actually wasn't even thinking of being mean to Alphys, honestly, I just threw that in there as a way to ground the story chronologically but that does raise some issues, you're right. I think probably I'll go with the cop-out of it being an open relationship or them having some relationship troubles right then or something, but that was just a case of me not thinking things through completely.

I thought it all took place after the events of the game since Alphys and Undyne were dating and everything. Nothing has implied otherwise.

I think you did well with Blaise but she hasn't been mentioned anywhere before even though we've already had multiple stories of Fuku so it felt like she dropped out of nowhere in my opinion.

It isn't stated anywhere because of the audience. There are very few people, I imagine, who started reading my stuff with this story. I know you guys have read everything, so you already know that Fuku and Blaise set things on fire if they touch them. If this was something I was going to try and get published, yeah, I'd have to explain that, but otherwise there's no point repeating the same stuff that's been established in other stories if you know your audience is reading all the stories. Otherwise you get something like the novel version of 1Q84, which was serialized in a magazine first, so every 20 or 30 pages you get a recap of everything that's happened in the story up to that point and boy does that drag.

At any rate I'm really not handling the fire thing as realistically as I 'should' be, considering that Fuku doesn't die if her fire goes out or that Undyne can give her a massage without any harm. It's just a device to explore the character with, that's all. It doesn't have to be played completely straight.

That's really a symptom of the roughness of the format. I could always go back and edit Blaise into those old stories but...not much of a point. We all know that I just made her up for this story and if she's in more in the future, that's another thing. We're collaborating on art that is probably never going to get published, so it doesn't have to be 100% polished. As long as you guys know what's going on and can look past some after-the-fact roughness I'm okay with it.

As for the never having been trapped thing, it's just so I don't have to deal with realistically depicting human and monster interactions after they get out. I imagine there'd be a lot of prejudice and mistrust and that feels so played-out and old to me that I never wanted to bother with it.

Hm, I guess I just always think of your stories from someones perspective who knows the characters from the game and nothing else. It's fine really. I certainly wouldn't want you to repeat yourself. I was thinking more along the lines of those little details getting more and more inventive.

Yeah the prejudice thing would be pretty drab but I kind of expected it to not be as realistic and that the monsters integrated into society awfully well like at the end of the game without much problems. Your stories could simply take place after such an integration has already happened so there's no need to show off human/monster interaction too much. I mean it's been touched upon a bit in the stories where Undyne wonders about the readers human features.

I just like to think that Undyne was a super serious royal guard but once she doesn't have to be she just wants to teach gym to kids and that's why she's so famous with the monsters like Fuku and Octavia. Doesn't it raise another kind of problem where you now have to invent other ways for these characters to have met each other and for why they know each other?

I don't really know much about it except that it's popular with people. I did a quick glance through of comments on some Undertale stuff, and I doubt you'd get a hostile reception as long as the stories were tagged appropriately. You might get a lot of "why isn't thing like game" type posts, though.

You're delusional. I've been on /utg/ since the beginning of 2016 and it's actually a lot calmer than it used to be. It just used to be so insanely fast that there were more differing opinions and you wouldn't even notice someone like soriel shitposting in the middle. There used to be so incredibly many shitposters in the general when every thread had over 100 IPs that calling them mean and petty NOW is just funny.

I admit that there's a bit of a slump in the posting since people seem to be slowly getting tired of Undertale but there's no real horrible shitposting anymore like the Barbosa stuff, Asgore cuck stuff, Every single horrible thing the skeleton fandom has created and all the horrible fetishes like bloodplay and lobotomy that we used to have constantly. There's no more catfucker (most of the time), no WORSHIP or stuffit the Muffet fags, entire threads worth of vore shitposting or Toriel scat and Asriel abuse. The only thing Soriel has achieved is that now everyone ignores any kind of arguments or differing opinions because they assume they're being trolled.

I stopped reading the Muffet abuse posts quickly after they appeared months ago. I'm fairly certain that anons only motive is to see where and when the Muffetfag is going to break. They're just mindless abuse and easy to ignore since you know it's always one of the replies to him. Occasionally I'll see what he's come up with this time out of curiosity but there's no point getting upset over them since they're not meant to be actual abuse to the character but rather a way to get the spiderfags attention.

I think this is the main problem. Whenever someone tries to get a game discussion going soriel inevitably tries to hijack it, turning it into a characterfag war.
/utg/ also has weird hangups about speculation/things that aren't 100% obviously canon, so there's really very few "safe" things to actually talk about.

As much as I like the writeanon's stories, this has always been my main gripe with them. It seems like she does have some vendetta against Alphys. I understand the viewpoint that Alphys shouldn't be forgiven so quickly for her past actions, but she doesn't really seem to hold Asgore to the same standard.

It just feels like writeanon is always really quick to kick her while she's down. Between that one, the dating app one, the spin the bottle one, etc. I dunno, it just feels entirely unnecessary.

I think all this stuff about Alphys comes from me not really having thought out where I was going to go with things in those earlier stories where Alphys does get really beat on. There's also the fact that I was sort of assuming people would request more stuff about Alphys than not and I figured that I'd have plenty of room to flesh out that relationship, but that didn't really happen.

Back in the early stories my train of thought was that if Undyne isn't with Alphys any more, something obviously had to happen to break them up, and rather than go with the Alphys being a shallow whore who breaks up with Undyne out of nowhere, which I've seen other people doing, I figured that a more interesting route would be to have them splitting up due to Undyne being concerned for Alphys. Maybe that wasn't a realistic choice or whatever, but my reasoning was that Undyne would tend toward quick, sweeping judgments without a lot of foresight, and that when you're in a relationship with someone who's genuinely dependent on you, there's really only so much you can do before it becomes glaringly apparent that the only thing you can do is split up, because otherwise there's no chance of improvement at all. Maybe that was the wrong choice, but that was the one I made and those were the reasons behind it.

In my more recent stuff, I don't think I've really beat on Alphys all that much. In the teen Undyne stories, my general idea was that if Alphys is a complete shy nerd like I've been writing her, of course she's going to get the short end of the stick more often than not. What I had always figured was that Undyne and Alphys would get together after this short little thing with 'you' after prom, that things wouldn't work out with that and that that would go for however long, years, until it's time for those earlier stories. That was part of what I was trying to do with that little mention of Alphys in that story with Fuku yesterday (cont'd)

...I was trying to hint at the timeline I'm envisioning for this whole thing, tying all these stories together, which goes something like this:
(youngdyne goes to live with asgore) > (teen Undyne goes to live with her dad and Akhy, teen Undyne stuff happens) > (things with 'you' don't work out and Undyne gets together with Alphys) > (things with Alphys don't work out) > (stuff with Fuku and Octavia) > (Undyne gets together with a different 'you' than from high school) > (Brill happens somewhere in here) and then whatever happens next.

That's the vision I'm working towards now, but a lot of this roughness comes from not having that all clear and planned out when I had started writing. Obviously there's some gaps in that timeline where people just haven't requested stories that fit in yet, but I'm confident that if I keep this up long enough it'll all fall together.

Anyway, the one other story, the dating website one, I've never really been too pleased with, since it relies on Undyne acting like a total retard. I didn't write that one well at all and it's always bothered me a bit, but I haven't really seen a way to fix it other than just deleting it, and of course I don't want to do that because someone requested it.

To get back to the original question, I think the reason there's so much about Alphys getting beat on in these stories is because there's a big oversampling of the areas around her and Undyne's relationship and not enough of the actual relationship. I've said before that I didn't really like Alphys in the game, and I stand by that, but I don't mind writing about her and I really don't have a vendetta against her, or at least I'm not trying to have one. I just wasn't expecting there to be so few requests for her and Undyne doing things together. I hope this answers the question.

I'll just say this much: Alphys and Undyne are my favorite characters in the entire game, and I'd love to request fics featuring the two, but there's a bunch of caveats here.

First, an official timeline where Alphys will always end up getting dumped in favor of some random schmoe, which means that any fic featuring them, no matter how cute, will always have that feeling of dread and future despair on it, doesn't make me feel very welcome to make a request.

Second, for all your talk about how you don't beat on Alphys, there's still this massive feeling like you hate her so much that you project it onto Undyne. For example, the argument that when someone's dependent on you you have to split up: Consider that we're talking about Undyne, the straight up hero who never gives up, who made a promise to Alphys to help her improve as a person and who has a great interest in making things better for her.

The way I see it, if Undyne actually decided that she loves Alphys, I don't think she would give it up for something like her being mentally ill. I think she'd help her get professional help, I think she'd help her improve, I think she'd do everything in her power to make sure she gets better and that they can live a happy life together. And I think that because you hate Alphys, you made Undyne conveniently make a split second decision, and I think that if it was the reader character, you'd never write Undyne acting like that. And that doesn't make me feel welcome to make a request, either.

I don't exactly want to stop you from writing or anything, you do you, but from how much hostility you seem to have for Alphys any any pairing with her, which you seem to be greatly projecting to both Undyne and your writing, it just feels like anything I'd request would end up just being painful to read and hostile towards me, too.

If I'm going to be brutally honest I think you're being rather silly. I personally am a huge Alphyne fan and I've never gotten the impression that the writeanon hated Alphys. I agree that Undyne splitting up with Alphys seems out of character, but I think they explained that fairly well in the posts above about how there wasn't any overall plan, just trying to fit requests into a timeline.
The only reason I haven't requested any more Alphys stuff is that I don't have any interesting ideas.

You know what the really ironic part of all this is? When I was writing that Christmas special story, it was the first story I wrote for this thread that was explicitly erotic. That's why I was hyping it up so much, because it was the first actual porn I was writing. I wanted to keep the quality high though and not have it just literally be porn, so I was trying to think of a good way to get a scene with Alphys in without doing anything to Undyne and 'you' and their relationship, so I had the brilliant idea to have Alphys to miss Undyne so much and be so desperate that she comes up with this retarded plan to try and split Undyne and 'you' up. I was originally going for Undyne having this sort of predatory tone and really kind of taking advantage of Alphys to teach her a lesson or something like that, but really the most like basic reason was because I wanted to have a sex scene with Alphys and not have to throw out 'you' afterwards, that was it. I wanted to keep Alphys around too, that's why I had that whole thing about Undyne breaking up with her because she was so dependent. And I stick by that, I think that there's really only so much you can do when someone's that dependent, and the final step is just removing yourself from the equation; I thought that was more reasonable than Undyne trying to baby Alphys and coddle her or whatever because even though she always sticks with her friends she's pretty big on self-reliance as well, and I thought that that was a reaction Undyne would actually have.

Maybe that was the wrong choice, who knows. I think if I'd known the reaction I would probably have done things differently but at the time people really hadn't made a big deal about it, that's all been more recent.

It's really weird going to a website that's more like a traditional forum, I've gotten too used to 4chan. And god I couldn't remember the prompts if I tried, I won't bother with that.
