I finished the fifth chapter of this ongoing Pack Street thing I'm writing. I'm uncertain about a lot of things, so I'd love thoughts on the stuff that I've got uploaded here. I'm really happy, though, with the series so far.

Nick, as a teenager, did a lot of stupid things for beer money before he got to hustlin'. Shoplifting, pickpocketing, selling a bit of catnip, donating blood, and, once, jizzing into a cup after lying his ass off about who he was.

Isabelle with major daddy issues because she never knew hers growing up used to date the much older Nick when she was barely out of high school, they even lived with each other for a bit before she eventually decided to get her shit together and go to university, and they separated amiably. Nick used to look back on the relationship with bittersweet mixed feelings, glad that she had outgrown him but sad that she had left him behind. That was before he got his own shit together with Judy, of course.

Then there was a change in the laws, and Isabelle was able to petition the sperm bank for the identity of her father. And though all the information was complete bullshit, there was a polaroid attached, with a familiar smug smile looking back at her.

After coming to terms with learning she'd fucked the shit out of her own daddy, she decides that fuck it, she's come this far, she's going to tell him. And though she's grown a lot since then, she still learned a lot from Nick, including how best to fuck with people. And she feels like the best approach, the approach that her father would be most proud of, would be the double finger guns and 'Guess What, I'm Your Daughter'.

There's actually research behind this. Something like a 'sameness bias' or 'normalcy bias'. If in enough images you don't see a proper signature or anything like that, your eyes become trained to not even particularly notice such things-- even if a label is clearly there. Actually, that could explain explain somerhing a manager at a Disney store in Vancouver, BC told me last September.
