Tom started writing it when he was a teenager, so the first few years of it probably do come across as somewhat autistic. As with any internet subculture (especially ones involving furries) there is some autism in the fandom but its mostly of the harmless variety. Part of what keeps me coming back to this thread is that it's so damn comfy in here.

I imagine that that's why Clovis would mostly keep to her estate if that were the case, though. If she only has to use magic to disguise herself when she's in public and in heat, she can probably get away with more practical measures to keep her secret when she's in her own home.

If she had to maintain a charm spell at all times then I could see her draining through mana crystals constantly, and going through them more frequently as time goes on. However I don't think that's necessarily the case, because she usually seems to resort to the tried and true method of just hiding.

1. Keith isn't a commoner, his father was a General which next to the King and other two generals is pretty much the highest position in Basitin society. Chances are he met influential people in Basitin society before his banishment

2. Keith was late in training for the Basitin military due to his mother, even if Maddie isn't much younger chances are their training would overlapped if they are close to the same age

3. Keith was banished at least 5 years earlier when he was 14 (probably sooner as he lived amongst the Foxes long enough to fall in love and want to marry Laura), according to his backstory he was already slated to join the military at that age but hadn't yet because his mother coddled him and prevented him from training so you are wrong. Basitins seem to have no problem putting teens into their military.

Tom draws anime eyes that are vertically elongated. In some pictures, like the one of King Adelaide having a painting done, you can see that he clearly was going for slit pupils - which makes sense on Basitins, because they're cabbits. Likewise, you can occasionally see an intentional slit-pupil effect on other felines. Very rarely on some villains, but I think that's mostly him trying to do something beady-eyed/evil.

The important takeaway there is that the eyes he draws in general are just a weird shape because anime eyes, and slit pupils are not used consistently enough to draw a conclusion about whether or not all Keidran have slit pupils.

And yes, it is a stylistic eye shape. Unless you want to argue that Trace and other humans also have slit pupils.

As the Middle Ages came to an end, the rank structure of medieval armies became more formalized. The top officers were known as commissioned officers because their rank came from a royal commission. The important word here is commissioned. There are two rank tracks in the military (disregarding the mythical Warrant Officers), enlisted and commissioned. Enlisted starts at Private and works up from there (Corporal, Sergeant, additional flavors of Sergeant, etc). But when you reach the top of that, you don't just start getting commissioned officer ranks. You have to go to OCS. You need to get a commission.

Commissioned officers go to OCS and do that shit, and they start out as a Lieutenant. They will lead enlisted men, but they will actually have less experience than their senior non-commissioned officer (one of those sergeants). Lt's are stereotypically clueless and inexperienced. They aren't usually prior-enlisted, they're usually fresh out of school without a day of real-world experience, and they get put in charge of enlisted guys who might have 10+ years of experience.

Being an Lt isn't a high accomplishment, it means you graduated.


Now, how that relates to TwoKinds is hard to tell. Is there the same enlisted/commissioned split in the Basitin military? Did Tom think it went Private -> Corporal -> Sergeant -> Lieutenant with no enlisted/commissioned split, and/or did he consider Sergeant, Sergeant First Class, Master Sergeant, etc, and then think that leads into Lt? Did Maddie get into officer school because of who her mom is? Did she test into officer school with high mental scores and middling physical ones? We don't know.

But in modern military terms, Lieutenant is a low rank. As an officer they are able to command men, but they simply don't have much in the way of experience, and very little authority outside their personal assignment.

I think the issue is that Mike is the person Evals cares most about but Evals isn't gay, so that puts him in an awkward place when he sees a female version of Mike. My favorite webcomic at the moment is Unsounded. It's not furry, but the world is interesting, writing is strong, art is great. Makes some pretty good use of the web medium to do some interesting things with combining the webpage layout + page content. Not quite as cutting edge as some of the things Prequel tried, but it's good stuff.

Stick with it past the first chapter. Sette is an annoying little shit, but it gets toned down to a more reasonable level, and she gets some character development as things go along.
